Merry Christmas

Even though it’s only October, most crafters have already started working on their fall and winter holiday projects. When it gets closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas, I have a hard time juggling all my errands and responsibilities: concerts, family gatherings, cooking, making gifts, buying other gifts, wrapping, decorating, creating cards…It seems like I’m always playing catch-up when I wait until closer to Christmas to get started. I’m grateful that the Stampin’ Up!® Holiday Catalog is available in September (and even earlier for Stampin’ Up!® demonstrators) so I can get a head start.

I was playing around with some Copper Foil Sheets and Embossing Powder the other day, and made this card.

I felt like a scientist performing experiments with this, but it was a lot of fun. First, I stamped some leafy images on the Copper Foil using Jet Black StāzOn Ink, but by the time I was finished, you couldn’t see it, so we’ll leave that step out from now on.

Card Details

Emboss the Copper Foil using the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Next, take the edge of a Jet Black StāzOn Pad and carefully drag over the embossed areas to bring out the raised trees. (Tip: It helps if you ink pad is a little on the dry side. You can always add more ink, but once it’s on there, it’s hard to take it off.)

Drag a Versamark pad over the panel. You don’t want to completely cover it; it should be splotchy. Emboss with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. When it’s cool, repeat with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and then once more with Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

Die-cut Merry from Night of Navy Cardstock using the Merry Christmas Thinlits Dies from the 2018 Stampin’ Up!® Holiday Catalog. This set includes Merry, Holidays, Happy, and Christmas, and they coordinate with the Merry Christmas to All Stamp Set, so you can mix and match the stamped and die-cut sentiments. (Of course, if you bundle the stamps and dies, you’ll save 10%.)

For this card, I used the Happy Christmas Wishes stamp from the Farmhouse Christmas Stamp Set (also from the Holiday Catalog). I taped over Happy and Wishes, then inked with a Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Pad, removed the tape (very important step!) and stamped on Whisper White Cardstock. Then I diecut it with the frame die from the Merry Christmas Thinlits.

Finishing the Card

Adhere the stamped embossed panel to a slightly larger panel of Merry Merlot Cardstock. Create a card base from a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Night of Navy Cardstock, scored and folded in half to create a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card. Emboss the front with the Scattered Sequins Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, to look like snow. Of course, you can use any folder. Oh My Stars or Sparkle folders would also look lovely.

Adhere the smaller layers to the card. Don’t forget to add a panel inside. I stamped the bare trees from the Winter Woods Stamp Set (another of my Holiday Catalog favorites) in Sahara Sand ink on Whisper White Cardstock, then added an extra sentiment from Farmhouse Christmas in Night of Navy. Not only does this add interest to the inside of the card, but it makes it easier for the recipient to read your message and signature.
