Beautiful Colorful Sprinkles

Beautiful Colorful Sprinkles

As a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, I have access to many online groups and forums with inspiration from demonstrators around the world. For me, though, once I see a card, it’s hard to “unsee,” so using it as inspiration and not just copying the card is sometimes difficult. I often look for inspiration in places other than paper crafting sites. Like a home improvement store.

Mike & I were in the mountains over the weekend. Our idyllic getaway is a lovely place to relax and recharge, and we try to get there as often as we can. About a year ago, Mike noticed someone had been marking some property lines, and we discovered that the lot next to us (which the realtor told us could never be improved with a house) had been sold and the new owners were building. Now, instead of seeing deer and squirrels out the kitchen window, we see neighbors. We have nothing against neighbors, we just don’t want to see them out the kitchen window, even though they seem like quite lovely people. But we don’t go to the mountains to socialize; we go to get away.

This weekend, Mike decided blinds would be a nice way to block the view yet still let in light, so we headed to the home improvement store. We got lots of things we needed (and some that we didn’t) – but not blinds. Still, while Mike was looking at doors for our permanent home, I peeked at some prints. One that caught my eye was a couple walking along the waterfront with umbrellas and overhanging flowers. So when I got home, I made this.

Beautiful You, Colorful Seasons, Sprinkles of Life, Stampin' Up!

I wanted to use the flowers with the Colorful Seasons branches, but it’s fall, and I just couldn’t bring myself to have flowering trees. The Colorful Seasons leaves were a little large, so I decided to use the tiny leaves from Sprinkles of Life. This was a Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) set a few years ago, and it got carried over to subsequent catalogs. This must have been a very popular set, because I don’t think that has ever happened before. If you’re unfamiliar with the RMHC sets, about 15 years ago, Stampin’ Up! partnered with RMHC. Demonstrators volunteer in different houses and donate cards to the houses as part of our “Make a Difference” campaign. Stampin’ Up! also gives a donation to RMHC each year, and a new stamp set is designed for the charity. $3 from the sale of each set is donated to RMHC. Sharing Sweet Thoughts is this year’s set and it coordinates with the Everyday Jars Framelits dies. You can see this set inside the back cover of the 2017-18 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.

This card is fairly straightforward, but here are the details. The branches are stamped in Early Espresso, and the leaves are Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, and Garden Green. I inked a stamp from Beautiful You in Crushed Curry, then used Stampin’ Write markers to  add bits of Garden Green and Cajun Craze over the Crushed Curry, then stamped on the bottom of the card to create the fallen leaves.

I stamped the Beautiful You umbrella lady in Basic Black, then colored with Watercolor Pencils and a Blender Pen. The sentiment is also from Sprinkles of Life, and it’s stamped in Cajun Craze. The stamped panel is layered to a Cajun Craze card base.

So there you go. Take some time today to notice the “art” all around you and find inspiration in everyday things.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!

Ssorry to hear about the house being built. Some neighbors wanted me to sell the lot next to me with the dogwoods, and apple trees so they could build a house. Couldn’t sell it. I don’t want to look out and see the neighbors besides the deer love the apples. !!

I love walking through the crunchy leaves on the ground! That’s the memory your card brings me, Buffy! (I do still walk through the crunchy leaves!) Great card, and inspiration story.
