Paradise Palms

Here’s another fun card I copied from the Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator Web Site. It’s so fun and so easy to create. And you only need one ink pad, Basic White and Basic Black Cardstock, and some scraps!

How fun is that? First, I want a beach umbrella in those gorgeous colors. I deviated just a bit from the card on the site, but it’s still pretty close to the original. Here’s how to make it.

Cut strips of Mango Melody, Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Daffodil Delight. This is a great way to use up scraps! I used 1/2″ x 3″ strips, but, of course, the strips at the top and bottom of the circle don’t have to be 3″.

Adhere the strips to a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of copy paper. You can use card stock, but it makes the card a little more bulky. I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue with the Silicone Craft Sheet. And did you know that once any stray glue on your craft sheet has dried, you can easily clean it off with a lint brush (actually tape on a roller) from the dollar store? It’s a super easy clean up. My craft sheets are so clean now that my friend Nadine shared that trick with me. Once the glue is dry, cut a circle with the Layering Circles Dies. Set this aside for a few minutes.

You’ll need a Basic White Cardstock card base. You can use Thick Basic White if you want, but I almost always use Basic White. You also need a 3-3/4″ x 5″ Basic White layer. I used the Simply Scored tool to add the grid lines every 1/2″. You can also use a ruler and the Take Your Pick tool.

Use the Layering Circles Dies again to die-cut a circle in the center of the scored layer. Lay the scored/die-cut layer over the card base, but don’t glue it yet. Make sure it’s straight and exactly where you want it, then glue the die-cut/card stock striped circle into the negative circle through the Basic White Layer.

Die-cut the large palm tree from Basic Black Cardstock using the Palms Dies. These dies are currently part of the Paradise Palms Bundle (Paradise Palms Stamp Set/Palms Dies). But after June 30, the bundle will no longer be available. You can purchase the products, but you’ll have to purchase them individually (i.e. not save 10%), so you’ll want to order the bundle before June 30!

Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the top of the tree to the Basic White scored layer. The trunk of the tree will go through the circle, then adhere to the back of the scored layer. Adhere the Basic White layer to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. making sure the paper pieced circle is behind the die-cut circle on the Basic White layer. (Tip: You can make this easier by die-cutting the paper pieced circle a little larger than the die you use for the “window” on the Basic White Layer.)

Use the Embossing Buddy on a scrap of Mango Melody Cardstock. What’s that? We don’t have an Embossing Buddy? Hmmmm – wait until you see the July-December Mini Catalog! Embossing has never been this fun! Stamp the sentiment in Versamark Ink on the Mango Melody Cardstock, then emboss with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Punch with the Label Me Fancy Punch and add to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

After making this card, I am so ready for the beach, aren’t you?
