Deer on the Horizon

Deer on the Horizon

Welcome back to Stamping with Buffy, my friends! I want to show you some products from the January-June Mini Catalog today. I know what you’re thinking. The 2022-2023 Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog launched this week. Why are you showing us “old” products? Well, partly because the Grassy Grove Bundle is carrying over to the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog. And not just the products in the bundle, but the Grassy Grove Bundle is carrying over – with the 10% bundle price! The other reason is that half the bundle is new to me.

Here’s the “back story.” My parents’ house (well, since 2020, just my mom’s house) borders a woods. This was my dad’s dream forever, and I am so happy that he got to realize that dream for many years. There’s also an apple orchard along the side of the house. My dad also had a garden. So add it up – woods + garden + orchard = yep. You’ve got it. There were lots of deer in my parents’ yard over the years.

Before my dad got to the place in life where he needed 24/7 care, my mom always attended my Stampin’ Up!® events. In fact, she was a Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrator for awhile. Now that my niece has come to live with her, they’ve been attending my classes, and Mom fell in love with the Grassy Grove Stamp Set. She ordered the stamps but not the bundle. Since the bundle is carrying over, I decided to order the Grove Dies – but not the stamp set, since I knew I could borrow it from Mom any time. But I was looking forward to creating something with the dies over the weekend. Sadly, I realized I forgot to take a paper cutter with me to our mountain house. AAARRRGGGH! Mike offered to cut paper with his razor knife, but I decided I’d rather read all weekend than trust him to cut paper.

So – now that I’m home with my trusty paper cutter and other products, here’s the card I made with the Grove Dies.

Grove Dies, New Horizons, Stampin' Up!

How aweome is this? It reminds me so much of the deer in my parents’ yard! First, I die-cut the two deer and the trees using the Groves Dies and Basic Black Cardstock. I adhered the deer and trees die-cuts to a piece of the New Horizons Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the January-June Mini Catalog. I am so in love with this paper. I’m so sorry it’s retiring at the end of June, because it is so gorgeous and works with so many products!

I added the die-cuts and DSP to Calypso Coral Cardstock and then to a Basic Black card base. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals for all the die-cuts so they would pop up a bit.

After being in the mountains for a few days, this is a perfect card for us. There are about six deer that hang out at a neighbor’s house, and when we walk Max at o’dark thirty in the morning, they are watching us. They have a place where they run from the safety of the houses to the base of the mountain – but somehow Max misses them every time. Is he ignoring them? I don’t think so. I think our Max is just looking for something to eat or pee on. Max is very focused in the mornings, and deer are not in that focus. It’s sad.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!

Beautiful card, Buffy. I love your story about Max. We had a Golden Retriever who would walk right by rabbits and never notice them. Dogs are definitely focused in the morning!

Buffy, this is so beautiful. I love that DSP with the forest silhouette. Poor Max. Deer come low down on his am list.

  3. I love this beautiful scene! The soft background & silhouettes are perfect. I think that the deer are quite happy to not be on Max’s radar! LOL

Thank you, Deborah! Yes, I think the deer are very happy that they aren’t seen! Max is usually in his own little world, looking for something new to sniff!
