January Mystery Pieces
Welcome back, my crafty friends! I am so excited to share our team’s Mystery Pieces Challenge for January. It was so fun, but I heard from several of the participants that it was a real challenge for them. Here are the parts Christy sent us.
We got a snowflake die-cut from (I think) the Mother of Pearl Specialty Paper in the January-June Mini Catalog; Gilded Leafing (always a hit with me!); Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather, and Basic White Cardstock; and a piece of the Gorgeous Grape “Marbleous” Designer Series Paper (DSP) that’s a Sale-a-bration product.
I LOVED this packet of supplies, but the Gilded Leafing and Mother of Pearl Paper were a challenge. I wanted to go with a winter idea, but as much as I love Gilded Leafing, I wasn’t sure how to add it.
Here’s my card.
The first thing I did was to color the snowflake with Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends. I cut a square of the DSP, rounded the edges, and then added the snowflake. I adhered this to a slightly larger Gorgeous Grape (with rounded edges) square. I cut the Highland Heather layer to 3-3/4″ x 5″, then embossed with the Hive 3D Embossing Folder, then added it to the 4″ x 5-1/4″ Basic White Layer, then to a Gorgeous Grape card base. When I peeled the snowflake from the paper, I loved the little ovals left behind, so I added them to the embossed layer as little “snowdrops.”
I added a poinsettia, stamped and die-cut with the Poinsettia Petals and Poinsettia Dies over the snowflake. I still had the Gilded Leafing to use, so I covered the die-cut poinsettia center with glue and covered it with Gilded Leafing. Before I adhered the poinsettia/snowflake square to the card, I added a strip of the opposite side of the DSP to the card. It almost looks like a gorgeous ribbon, don’t you think?
I really enjoyed this challenge. Here are the cards from the rest of the team.
Oh, how I love Nadine’s “snowy night” background! And look at that sponging on the sentiment layer. I also love how she used the Gilded Leafing on the Tear & Tape strip, then added some gold cord. It’s so well balanced!
This is from Liz. Look how she added a Gilded Leafing background to the snowflake – and she also colored the snowflake – and the strip of gilded leafing over the sentiment. So sweet!
This is Carol’s card. Carol’s cards are always very clean and classic. I love how the snowflake is the star of this card! There’s a punched/die-cut circle under it to make it stand out, and she also added a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive under the snowflake layer.
This is from Chris. She covered the snowflake with the Gilded Leafing! I love that! I also love the little snowflake strip under the gold snowflake, and the sentiment. It’s perfect for a snowflake card, don’t you agree? And that paper behind it all is just perfect (especially the extra die-cut layer at the top). Gorgeous!
This is Christy’s “Fun Fold” card. I love how she framed the front with Tear & Tape Adhesive and the Gilded Leafing. It’s so pretty. And the way she layered everything, you can see both sides of the DSP.
This is Sandy’s Card. She also “gilded” the snowflake. But my favorite part of this card is how she added more Gilded Leafing with a thin layer of glue over the DSP. So GORGEOUS! And I love the added gems that Sandy, Liz, and Nadine added to their cards. Sandy added a strip of the opposite side of the DSP on the inside of the card.
I am so proud of my team! This was a tough challenge, but I think they all hit it out of the park!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Be sure to stop by on Monday for a preview of another early release product from the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog that you’ll be able to purchase in March. Have a lovely day!
They are all very pretty but I honestly do like yours best!
