Gilded Strong of Heart
Welcome back, my crafty friends! I hope you’re having a lovely week! I got to craft with a friend on Monday, then spend some time with my dad’s sister on Tuesday. She’s been organizing old family pictures, and we went through a lot of them. It was so fun to put faces with my dad’s aunts and uncles that I had heard of but never met. It was also very much fun to see pictures of my dad as a little boy.
One of the cards we made at classes this month used the Strong of Heart Stamp Set. This is a “Make a Difference” set from Stampin’ Up!®. For each set purchased, Stampin’ Up!® will donate $3 to support heart health. Heart health is very important to me as many of my family members have had to deal with heart issues. Here’s the card.
I wanted to play with the Ever Eden Cotton Paper, so I cut a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece and crumpled it into a ball. Then I flattened it out, leaving a lot of wrinkles and adhered it to a Blackberry Bliss card base. I used a sponge wedge on a clip with the Tombo Multipurpose Liquid Glue to dab glue on the back of the cotton paper, then adhere it to the card base. Usually, if the layer is crooked, you can move it around a bit with the liquid glue, but I was afraid I’d rip my cotton paper, so I just left it a little crooked. You can achieve this same effect by running the paper through the Cut & Emboss Machine with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder, but crumpling it into a tight ball was more fun for me.
Next, I squirted some Multipurpose Liquid Glue into a plastic cup and added just enough water to make the glue “Splatterable.” (Yes, I made that word up.) I used a small paint brush to pick up the glue/water, then tapped the bush with a finger from the hand not holding the brush to splatter the mixture over the Cotton Paper (and a little over the card base). I placed the card face down in my box of Gilded Leafing, then used a Stamping Sponge to wipe off the excess. I made several of these cards; some had a very light splatter of glue, so the leafing was more of a hint of gold. For this one, I added a bit more glue water and I even painted a bit over the top and bottom. Just remember – you can always add more, so start on the light side.
Finally, I stamped the heart from the Strong of Heart Stamp Set using Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink. I colored the flowers and leaves with Blackberry Bliss and Soft Succulent Stampin’ Blends. I used the Detailed Trio Punch to round the edges of the Very Vanilla Cardstock layer, stamped the sentiment in Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink, added an Opal Round and attached the stamped layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
This card can go to so many people, because I am always amazed (in a good way!) by my friends and family.

Thanks, Deborah! I love the Cotton Paper, and the leafing is so fun to use. Sadly, the Strong of Heart Stamp Set will be retiring in January. But we’ve been able to send a lot of support to heart health issues!
