Welcoming Woods
Welcome back, Stamping Friends! One of my earliest purchases from the Stampin’ Up!® July-December Mini Catalog was Welcoming Woods, but I hadn’t used it yet. Today, I decided to break it in.
I love the “feel” of this card. Winter isn’t my favorite season, but there is something about the first snowfall of the year that I love. It’s the melting slush and sludge that I don’t like. But the fresh snow is magical, especially at night.
To create this card, I used Stampin’ Blends to add (from the top down) Misty Moonlight, Blackberry Bliss, and Early Espresso Classic Ink to a 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″ piece of Basic White Cardstock. Next, I stamped the trees from the Welcoming Woods Stamp Set in Basic Gray Classic Ink, and the snowflakes in Whisper White Craft Ink. Using a Blender Pen, I added a bit of snow along the ground as well.
I ran a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Misty Moonlight Cardstock through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Timber 3D Embossing Folder and layered the stamped panel to it. Next, I wrapped a piece of 1/2″ Highland Heather Ribbon around the two layers, then added them to a Basic Gray card base. I stamped the sentiment on Going Gray Cardstock using Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink and punched it with the Tailored Tag Punch.
While I was creating this, all I could think of was the Robert Frost poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Robert Frost – 1874-1963
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy! Have a lovely day.

Beautiful card, Buffy. I love your colors. I do have to say there is nothing lovely about any snowfall! I can say that now that I am a Southerner!

Ha ha!! Thank you, Susan!! You may change your mind about snow after a year or five down South. You don’t get a lot and it’s gone pretty quickly, so it’s not so bad. At least here, though, most people can’t drive in it unless they’re transplants from up North.

Thanks, Deborah! I think it’s more enchanting because we don’t get a lot.
