Give it a Whirl with Hats Off
Hello, my crafty friends! I have a few reminders for you. Today is the last day to order from the January-June Mini Catalog Last Chance List and the last day to order the Hey, Chick Bundle and the Hey, Birthday Chick Bundle. Tomorrow, the Designer Series Paper Sale begins! You can see the papers that are on sale in this post.
Over the weekend, I held a class using the Give it a Whirl Dies. These are so much fun! Here’s one of the cards we made with the dies and the Hats Off Bundle.
You can see from the pictures that the little wheel on the right side turns so that the image in the window changes from the sunrise, to the mountain, and then to the Life Is Great sentiment. Here’s how we made it.
First, cut the front from the Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper (DSP). This is one of the designs that will be 15% off from July 1 – August 2, 2021, by the way. Next, cut the wheel from Basic White Cardstock. Using the die as a guide, lightly trace the three windows so you’ll know where to place the stamps.
The dies make creating this card so simple. You’ll notice when you cut the front piece that there’s a tiny hole die-cut in the center for the brad. It lines up perfectly with the hole in the center of the die-cut wheel. AND each window design (you can use circles, rectangles, hearts, and a wedge-shape) also has a hole that lines up with the front of the card and the wheel. Easy!
Then, using images from the Hats Off Stamp Set, ink the sunrise stamp in Bumble Bee Classic Ink. Before you stamp on the paper, re-ink the outline with a Merry Merlot Stampin’ Write Marker and the sunrise with Calypso Coral and Merry Merlot Stampin’ Write Markers. Ink the mountain stamp with Mossy Meadow Classic Ink, the re-ink the mountain detail in a Night of Navy Stampin’ Write Marker. Color the mountain using a Gray Granite Stampin’ Blend. Finally, for the third window, ink Life is Great using Calypso Coral Classic Ink, then re-ink life and is with a Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker.
When I put my card together, I added a small punched (or die-cut) circle behind the wheel so it would be easier to turn. I die-cut the clouds from the Give it a Whirl Dies to cover the brad that holds the wheel to the card – and to make it a little more fun.
Stamp the hat from the Hats Off Stamp Set in Mossy Meadow Classic Ink on Bumble Bee Cardstock, then die-cut with the Hat Builder Dies. Stamp the sentiment using Calypso Coral Classic Ink.
Layer the pieces to the card front, then use Stampin’ Dimensionals to add the card front to the Merry Merlot card base. Be sure the dimensionals are on the edges; you don’t want to adhere the wheel to the card base!
These whirly card are perfect for kids, because they’re interactive, but adults enjoy them as well. It’s a little surprise with each turn of the wheel!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!
