Use Those Chalks

Use Those Chalks

Welcome back to another BS&J Stamp Off Challenge. These week we’re using our Stampin’ Up!® Soft Pastels Assortment. In other words, we’re using chalk.

I love the new Soft Pastels Assortment. You can use them to color directly only a project or use the Stampin’ Up!® Blending Brushes, Blender Pens, Water Painters, Stamping Sponges or Sponge Daubers, or even cotton swabs. I opted to create a background with the Basic Patterns Decorative Masks for my card.

Art Gallery, Stampin' Up!, Basic Patterns Masks, Soft Pastels

I used the Gorgeous Grape, Night of Navy, and Coastal Cabana Chalks. Lay your mask over a Basic White Cardstock panel. You may want to secure it with a low-tack tape. Then color over the mask with the chalk. As you color over the mask, the edges of the mask (in this case, around the flowers) will scrape the dust from the chalk, leaving it on the mask. After you cover the area you want for the background, use a Blending Brush to move the dust from the mask into the card stock. It’s quite easy; simply rub over the mask with the brush. If you’ve used several colors, you may want to wipe the brush off on a paper towel between colors so they don’t get muddy. If it’s not as dark as you’d like, simply add more chalk, then blend it in.

Chalk will rub or smear if you’re not careful. If I use the chalk with a cotton swap, Blending Brush, or sponge, I give the panel a quick spritz with cheap aerosol hair spray to “set” it.

Adhere the chalk background to a Pacific Point panel, then to a Gorgeous Grape card base. For the rest of the card front, stamp the small flower from the Art Gallery Stamp Set in Coastal Cabana, then stamp the detail with Pacific Point. Stamp the sentiment on Coastal Cabana Cardstock with Pacific Point Classic Ink. Die-cut the sentiment and flower with the coordinating Floral Gallery Dies. If you hurry, you can order the Art Gallery Stamp Set and Floral Gallery Dies in a bundle and save 10%, but while the products are all carrying over, the bundle price ends June 30.

For fun, I added some Gorgeous Grape floral sequins that I pulled out of my embellishments box. Sadly, they are retired, but there are so many other gorgeous embellishments in the Stampin’ Up!® Catalog that will be even prettier!

Before you leave today, please check out what Susan and Jackie have done with chalk. I cannot wait to see what they have for us!

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!

Tee Hee, you and Susan must have hatched a plot to make chalk backgrounds! Buffy this is lovely. I love the colors and flowery background. You made it the focal point, which is spectacular
