Hand-Penned Petals with Chalk

It’s Friday! I am so excited, because today is Amelia’s last day of school. I get to pick her up at noon, and we have plans. First, each child gets to ring the bell to celebrate summer. Then, she and I are going to a local farm market for ice cream and then lunch with Mom, my sister-in-law, and one of my nephews. If it doesn’t rain and we have time, maybe we can swim, too. She’s getting so comfortable in the water and has come a very long way from the little girl who wouldn’t even get in the “big pool.” I’m so proud of her!

Today, Jackie, Susan, and I have another Stamp Off! challenge for you. This one was difficult for me. We can use stamps, embellishments, and Designer Series Paper (DSP), but no stamps or punches.

My card is very simple and it uses the Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set.

I love this technique, and it’s another “oldie” that I had forgotten about. First, cut a piece of tissue paper about 5″ x 6-1/4″. Stamp the image on the tissue paper using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and the sentiment in Bermuda Bay Classic Ink.

Use the Soft Pastels to color the image. Be careful, because the tissue paper is very fragile and you don’t want to rip it. Add color to the flowers by gently coloring the image with the Soft Pastels. I didn’t try to be artistic; I just added the color into the image. Use a Blender Pen to blend the color on the image, being careful not to smear the Memento Ink.

Now comes the fun part. Crumple the tissue paper into a ball. I smooshed my up fairly tightly. Then un-crumple, but don’t smooth it out too much. Leave lots of wrinkles.

Add Multipurpose Liquid Glue to cover a 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece of Pool Party Cardstock. Be sure to use the Silicone Craft Sheet so you can add glue all the way to the edge. Lay the tissue paper over the Pool Party Cardstock. You can trim the tissue paper to fit the card stock, but I like to miter the edges (cut triangles at the four corners), then glue the excess tissue paper to the back. I think it looks a little more “finished” than simply trimming the tissue paper, and it’s not a whole lot more work.

Adhere the Pool Party/Tissue Paper layer to a Coastal Cabana card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals. No punches. No dies. But lots of texture!
