Red, White, & Blue Summer Challenge

Welcome back, my friends! I hope you’re having a lovely week. I finally got our pool open this week, and Amelia & I swam a little after she got out of school yesterday. We had so much fun. And since our temperatures have been in the upper 80’s and beyond, the water wasn’t extremely cold.

Our demonstrator team challenge this month was to create a red, white, and blue or other summer themed card. I realized that all my star stamps and dies are retired. I thought about a picnic theme with a red or blue checked tablecloth – but then I remember that the Buffalo Check background stamp also retired.

After much dithering, I settled on this idea.

I really like the simplicity of this card. First, I stamped the flowers from the Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Basic White Cardstock. I colored them with Real Red, Night of Navy, Balmy Blue, Granny Apple Green, and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends, then die-cut with the Penned Flowers Dies. This stamp set and the coordinating dies from the new Stampin’ Up!®Annual Catalog can be bundled for a 10% savings.

Next, I stamped the pot from the Simply Succulents Stamp Set and colored it with Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends before cutting it with the Potted Succulents Dies. I cut a 2-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Night of Navy Cardstock and another strip of Real Red Cardstock. I used the Basic Borders Dies to cut the edge of the Real Red layer. I adhered the two card stock layers to a Basic White card base, then added the flowers, the pot, and the sentiment (also from the Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set).
