Fluttering by To Say Hello

Happy Wednesday, my friends! This has been such a lovely week. Yesterday I met my mom, sister-in-law, and nephew at a local farm market for lunch. We had such a nice time. I found out that one of my friends worked there, so we had a good “catch-up” with her as well.

I knew Debbie and a friend were behind the “card ministry” in their church. Basically, they send get well, thinking of you, birthday, anniversary and other cards to members and past members of the church and people in the community. It brings smiles to so many faces. I know, because my parents have been recipients of those cards. And Debbie and her friend love doing it. E-mails and texts are wonderful, but there’s something extra special and more personal about receiving a card in the mail. I know whenever I see a greeting card in my mailbox (especially one in a Stampin’ Up!® envelope!), I can’t wait to open it and see what’s in there.

Usually when I make cards, they’re for a specific purpose – birthday, get well, or anniversary. But I also love to send little notes to people to let them know I’m thinking about them. Especially these days when so many are isolated, it’s important to stay connected. Here’s a quick and fun little card I made using the Brilliant Wings Dies. These dies and the coordinating Butterfly Brilliance Stamp Set are early release products from the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog from Stampin’ Up!® Two exclusive Designer Series Paper (DSP) packs are available during the Butterfly Bouquet promotion (through May 3).

This card is so easy. I love creating unique backgrounds, so that’s what I did on the Basic White Cardstock. First, I used Dark Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay, and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends (thank you, Susan Horr, for the color combination) and scribbled on a Window Sheet. I kept the colors a little bit apart, not scribbling right next to each other. Then I filled a Stampin’ Spritzer with 91% rubbing alcohol and spritzed until the colors ran. I wanted them to touch so there wouldn’t be just blobs of color, but I didn’t want them to mix too much and become muddy. Because the basic colors were mixes of blues and yellows, even if they did bleed together it looked ok. Then I pressed (or, my favorite term, smooshed) a piece of Basic White Cardstock over the ink. That’s all there is to it!

After it dried – and it doesn’t take long, because this is alcohol – I added the sentiment from the Today’s Tiles Stamp Set in Coastal Cabana Classic Ink. Then came the butterfly that I die-cut from a Gold Foil Sheet using the Brilliant Wings Dies. The Coastal Cabana layer is one of the designs from the Playing with Patterns DSP. All of this was added to a Daffodil Delight card base. (Tip – To make the butterfly look a little less “dead and pinned to a board as an exhibit,” I used Stampin’ Dimensionals just under its body and pulled the wings up a bit. I’m sure the wings will press back down in the envelope, but for a minute or two, the butterfly looked like it was really flying.)

This card was a lot of fun to make, and I’ll probably make several more. It’s wonderful to have some “Thinking of you” cards on hand to send out when someone crosses your mind. Usually when someone pops into my head, there’s a reason, and I like to send a card just to let him or her know they’re not alone.
