A Touch of (Alcohol) Ink

A Touch of (Alcohol) Ink

Happy Friday, my friends! Can you believe there are only three more days of Stampin’ Up! Sale-a-bration? It has flown by, and I haven’t had enough time to play with all my free products! There are such beautiful papers and fun stamp sets. If you haven’t ordered, be sure to place your order before Sunday is over, or you’ll miss out.

While I like all the Sale-a-bration products, there are several Sale-a-bration products I absolutely love! The Darling Donkeys are so cute, and the Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper (DSP) is gorgeous. Today’s card uses the A Touch of Ink Stamp Set, free with a $100 order during Sale-a-bration.

A Touch of Ink, Stampin' Up!, Sale-a-bration

The main colors in this card are Bermuda Bay and Magenta Madness. Aren’t they gorgeous together?

To create the background, I scribbled on a Window Sheet with Dark Magenta Madness and Dark Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends. Then I spritzed with 90+% alcohol and let the colors run. When I was happy with the mix of colors, I smooshed a piece of Basic White Cardstock over it.

While I was waiting for the card stock to dry (which doesn’t take long since it’s rubbing alcohol), I stamped the butterfly two times on Basic White Cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then I colored the butterflies with the same two Stampin’ Blends that I used for the background (Dark Magenta Madness and Dark Bermuda Bay).

After the background piece dried, I stamped the butterfly one more time on the background in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I did this so I wouldn’t have to fussy cut the butterfly’s little legs and antennae. I simply cut the body and wings of one and just the wings of the other. I layered the colored body and wings over the background, then used Mini Glue Dots to layer the wings over that. Then I pulled the wings forward a bit so there was a little more dimension. The sentiment is also stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

Stampin' Up!, A Touch of Ink, Sale-a-bration

I layered the stamped panel to a piece of the Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper (available in March).

Before I added the Basic Black layer, I covered about two-thirds of the top and bottom and the right side of the Basic Black Cardstock with Tear & Tape Adhesive. After I removed the backing over the Tear & Tape, I placed the card stock face down into my Gilded Leafing box, then used a Stamping Sponge to remove excess leafing. I love the way this looks, don’t you?

The Magenta Madness DSP is the new design for the Core Colors and In Colors DSP. If you join my team during Sale-a-bration (before Sunday night), you will get the new designs of the paper in the Brights, Neutrals, Regals, and Subtles collections as well as the 2020-2021 In Colors. That’s five packs of 6″ x 6″ paper, plus $125 in product of your choice, plus business tools (order forms, catalogs, folders and more) for only $99 plus tax (and shipping is free).

The next layer, of course, is Basic Black Cardstock, then the Bermuda Bay card base. I may be biased, but I love this card. I love the colors, the fluttering butterfly, and the gilded leafing edges.

The way this card turned out was a bit of a surprise. It wasn’t at all what I had envisioned when I started. You may know (if you have read my blog for a few months or more) that I help with art classes in my granddaughter Amelia’s school. This does not mean I’m a talented artist. I hand out papers, help clean up messes (and it’s art class; there will be messes!), and tell the kids how awesome their creations are. Ms. Abi does the hard part; I just get to have fun – and learn a lot from Ms. Abi.

One of the things Abi has the kids do is sketch out their ideas for a project on scrap paper before they execute their ideas. This is such a crucial step in creating and I’m trying to incorporate that into my stamped creations.  I didn’t do that this time, so the card kept evolving as I realized some things weren’t working (while some things looked amazing!). Still, I’m happy with the results.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Place your final Sale-a-bration order before Sunday night. And if you have any questions about becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, feel free to message me – soon! This is the best time to sign up. Have a lovely day!

Buffy, this card is gorgeous! The colour combinations and layout are awesome. Sometimes, just ‘flailing’ instead of planning works out just fine! 🙂
