Friends Are Like Seashells
Welcome to another BS&J Stamp Off! This week, we’re showcasing our favorite Stampin’ Up!® January-June Mini Catalog products. This week, my favorite product is the Friends Are Like Seashells Bundle from the Sand & Sea Suite. This bundle is so fun, because the Friends Are Like Seashells Stamp Set, Seaside Seashells Dies (say that three more times, really fast! I dare you.), and the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder all work really well together. (Ok, the embossing folder isn’t part of the bundle. But it’s part of the suite!) Of course, there are other absolutely amazing products in the suite – like the Pearlescent Specialty Paper, the Opal Rounds, and the gorgeous Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper. Plus, I’m going to throw in a few other of my favorite products – the Blending Brushes and the Gilded Leafing Embellishments. (But not all on one card!)
I was playing with different techniques when I created these two cards. Someone had the idea to use the Blending Brushes to add Frost White Shimmer Paint to any color card stock. That’s what I did here.
I added the Shimmer Paint to Blushing Bride Cardstock, let it dry, then die-cut the paper with the Seaside Seashells Dies and embossed with the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder. The sentiment is a Well Written die-cut using Champagne Foil Sheets. I added several Opal Rounds to the Very Vanilla card base.
Here’s a close-up of the shimmer.
Beautiful, right? I wanted to use this idea for a class, but I wasn’t sure I had enough Frost White Shimmer Paint. “Light Bulb!!” What if I added color to Pearlescent Paper? I ordered extra Pearlescent Paper, so I definitely have enough of that for classes.
Again I used the Blending Brushes to add Calypso Coral Classic Ink to a piece of Pearlized Specialty Paper. Then I die-cut and embossed as before, added it to a Calypso Coral card base, then added a Well Written sentiment in Copper Foil. I also blended some Terracotta Tile Ink on the card base using one of the Pattern Party Masks. And, of course, there are more Opal Rounds. These are GORGEOUS!
Here’s a close up of the shimmer.
Both techniques work equally well, I think. However, adding ink to the Pearlescent Paper is quicker than using the Shimmer Paint on regular card stock. And there’s a little less drying time. Either way, the Blending Brushes are amazing!
Here are two more examples using my favorite products.
For this one, I die-cut the shells from different colors of card stock, then stamped (using the technique in this video) in Versamark. After adding Heat & Stick Powder (a long time favorite of mine, and I’m so happy it’s back – at least for six months) and heating, I added the Gilded Leafing to the shells. It’s much more beautiful in person than in the photo. After adding the Leafing, I embossed with the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder.
The sentiment uses the Many Messages Bundle. And I added a piece of the Fine Art Ribbon. It’s so beautiful with its gold-ness. Oh – I also embossed the smaller Calypso Coral layer with the Seaside Embossing Folder from the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog.
Finally, for those of you who think you don’t have enough talent to create beautiful projects, here’s a card that my amazing granddaughter created.
I helped a tiny bit with stamp placement, but she chose the colors – including the card base. I wanted to use Coastal Cabana or Bermuda Bay, but she chose Pool Party. It’s perfect! Stampin’ Up!® makes everyone an artist. (Although Amelia is already there. I’m the one that needs help!)
So there you go – my favorite Mini Catalog product(s). What will Jackie & Susan choose? Check out their blogs to see! And if you can, please leave a comment on their blogs!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!

Thanks, Susan – and, Whoohooo! Another plot success. 😉 This is a fun suite, and it’s really easy to use. Sadly, I messed Amelia’s up by adding some shimmer paint after she left. Oops.

These are amazing cards! I love the shimmer paint highlight. I also like the embossed layers and the Pattern Party masks, all of which complement those lovely shells so well.

Thanks, Jackie! I like using the shimmer paint, but the ink on pearlescent paper works really well too.
