Hey, Girlfriend!

Hey, Girlfriend!

Welcome back to Stamping with Buffy! I’m so glad you’re here so I can give you another little sneak peek from the 2021 January-June Mini Catalog (J-J Mini).

Amelia has enjoyed Highlights magazine since my mother-in-law gave her the first subscription five years ago. My aunt called me a few weeks ago and asked if I would let her give her a year’s subscription. (Hmmmm, let me think about it. YES!) So I made a thank you card for Amelia to send. I’m sure she’ll add some more pictures and a note, but here’s the original.

Hey Girlfriend, Stampin' Up!

This is from the Hey Girlfriend Stamp Set from the upcoming Mini. I’m not super thrilled with my Designer Series Paper (DSP) choice for this card. I love the Fine Art Floral DSP in the J-J Mini. In fact, it may be my favorite DSP ever (I know I’ve said that before about other papers), but somehow it looked a lot better with Magenta Madness last night in my “light challenged” craft room.

First – my craft room is lovely and has a wonderful light over my stamping table. But I’m spoiled by sunlight streaming in windows from two sides during the day. And second – yes, I know Magenta Madness is not a color in the DSP, but it seemed to “go” with the darker Flirty Flamingo hues better last night.

I chose Marvelous Magenta for the card base because it’s Amelia’s favorite pink. In fact, when my pre-order arrived with the new designs of In Color DSP, she took several sheets of the paper. I was lucky to talk her into taking only two; she wanted all of it! She is definitely a “pink girl!” I would have used some of the Magenta Madness DSP, but it’s only 6″ x 6″, so it wouldn’t work with the 3-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ slimline card.

Amelia also loved the Hey Girlfriend stamp set, which now is permanently housed on her table in my craft room. I stamped the images using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then colored with Magenta Madness, Mango Melody, Daffodil Delight, Ivory, Poppy Parade, and Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blends. I added the cat because that’s Amelia’s favorite animal.

I die-cut the girl with the Celebration Labels Dies and sponged a bit of Magenta Madness Ink around the edges. This set of dies also has some heart dies, so I die-cut three Magenta Madness hearts to add to the card.

The sentiment is also in the Hey, Girlfriend Stamp Set. I stamped it in Mossy Meadow, cut it by hand, and added it around the girl.

You may be wondering why I didn’t let Amelia make the card. I pick her up from school at 3 every afternoon, then we come to my house until her parents can pick her up. Now that Wesley has changed positions at his job, he gets off at 4 p.m., so we only have about an hour to play before Amelia has to leave. And we don’t have too much more time on the days Stephanie picks her up. An hour or two is not enough time for Amelia to craft, and it can be stressful when she wants to continue working but her parents – hungry and exhausted after working – want to leave. So we find “quick” games that are easy to stop. Like yesterday…

Amelia decided we should have a spa day. She set up the coffee table in the family room with makeup, brushes, and nail polish. And she filled a small tub with warm water and dish detergent in the kitchen (for a pre-pedicure foot soak). She put on my makeup, then did hers. When she was putting on my lip color, she said, “Pretend you’re kissing a frog.” I went along with her, but when she put her own lip color on, she kept her lips “normal.”

“Wait. Why don’t you have to kiss a frog?” I asked her. Her answer was classic Amelia.

“Seesa, I don’t kiss frogs.” Well, what can one say to that logic? (I’m fairly sure I haven’t kissed any frogs. At least not since I met Mike.)

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Be sure to check in Friday for our “Foiled Again” challenge. And don’t forget the Year-End Closeout in my online store. There are lots of discounted retiring products from the August-December Mini!

Have a lovely day!

Such a wonderful card, but DO NOT convince me to buy that set! So Amelia tricked you with the kissing a frog ploy eh! She is soooo entertaining! I hope that your feet are nice and soft after your soak!

I was amazed at how soft DAWN detergent made our feet! I have already used this set three times – and it wasn’t one I thought I wanted. I just got it because I knew Amelia would want it. But the images are so fun to color. You’ll want it, Jackie! And, yes, she did trick me with the frog kissing.

Your card is beautiful. I love your Amelia stories. She sounds like so much fun! I am glad you get a lot of time with her!

Thanks, Susan! Amelia is so much fun, but I don’t get nearly as much time as I want with her. I was looking forward to Christmas break, and then Wesley told me he was taking almost the whole time off. NOOOOOOO! I’m going to have to find reasons to take her away!

Thanks for the laugh with the ‘kissing a frog’ story! 🙂 I’m sure Amelia would have chosen the same beautiful paper, colours and images that you did for this fun card, Buffy. (talent does run in your family!)
