Dandelion Wishes

Dandelion Wishes

One of my favorite Stampin’ Up!® stamp sets is Dandelion Wishes. It reminds me of some of my favorite “kids and dandelions” stories. Of course, all kids love to blow dandelion seeds and make a wish, to the chagrin of all parents who want a lovely lawn. When my brothers and I were growing up, we quickly learned how to use the “dandelion digger!”

Fortunately, Mike & I were never that obsessive about our yard, so the kids could blow as many dandelion seeds as they wanted at our house. It was good for the bees!

Our next door neighbor, however, was a real stickler about his lawn. It never – ever – got out of control, and it always looked like a golf course. He never had weeds, including dandelions. (I think I saw him actually glower at our yard one day. I decided to believe he was scrunching up his face because the sun was in his eyes. Apparently the sun was in his eyes a lot.)

One day when Wes was little, I caught him standing on the property line with a “dead” dandelion in his hand. He was getting ready to blow the seeds into our neighbor’s yard so we could “share” our flowers. I’m not sure if he really wanted to share the pretty flowers or if he knew the seeds would garner a crop of weeds which would drive our OCD neighbor crazy, but I didn’t want to ask!

And here’s my other favorite kid story. It’s a visual.

Miss Amelia has always loved dandelions. She was two years old in this picture, and it’s one of my all-time favorites. If you look closely, you can see her purple fairy wings. My beautiful dandelion fairy is checking out her latest crop! And it looks like she about to start a new one. But look at those little hands and arms! Those chubby baby hands are long gone, but she still loves to make dandelion wishes.

I created this card last week using the Dandelion Wishes and Butterfly Gala Stamp Sets from Stampin’ Up!®. It was inspired by a card from Lyssa, at Song of my Heart Stampers.

Dandelion Wishes, Beauty Abounds, Stampin' Up!

I inked an Acrylic Block D with Coastal Cabana Classic Ink, then spritzed it with a bit of water and a Stampin’ Spritzer. I stamped on a Whisper White rectangle that I die-cut with the Stitched Rectangles Dies. This is the perfect size for a top layer for a card. After the ink dried, I stamped the Dandelions over the inked area using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

While I was waiting for the ink on my Whisper White layer to dry, I stamped the sentiment from the Beauty Abounds Stamp Set, and the butterfly, also from Beauty Abounds, in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on scraps of Whisper White Cardstock. Then I colored the butterfly using the Light Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blend and punched it with the Butterfly Duet Punch. I trimmed the sentiment layer and notched the edge to create a banner. You can also use the awesome new Banners Pick a Punch punch in the August-December Mini Catalog.

After I adhered the sentiment and butterfly to the Whisper White layer, I wrapped the layer with a piece of  Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon, then added it to a Coastal Cabana card base. Super quick and simple – and it was so easy to create multiples with my Stamparatus.

I love sending greeting cards to friends and family. Texts and emails are great, but there’s just something about receiving a hand-made card in the mail. Whenever I see an envelope that fits a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card in my mailbox, I get really excited. And this is a perfect card to send, because you can customize the greeting for any occasion.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a magical day!

I love that picture of Amelia too. She looks so innocent in it and her fairy wings just add to that. Love your card too!

This is one of my favourite stamp sets – I still have mine, too! Such a pretty card, and great stories 🙂 How is it that we have the same neighbour?? Ours actually hand picks blades of certain grass out of his lawn!!

Oh. My. Goodness! My neighbor did use a “digger” to remove thistles and dandelions, but by hand???? I think your neighbor is a little more, um, “obsessive” than mind was. I think the boys enjoyed messing with his OCD. (They got that evil streak from their father, not me!)
