Forever Fern

Forever Fern

Happy Friday, Stamping Friends! I hope you’ve had a fabulous week. Today is another Stamp Off! – and I’m so excited about this one.

The theme for this week is “Favorite New Catalog Stamp Set.” I had a hard time choosing, because choosing a favorite stamp set is kind of like choosing a favorite child; I just can’t! But I do have one that I haven’t used as much as I’d like, so I chose that one. Actually, I used a stamp set, a bundle, and a half bundle. (Sounds like the beginning of a joke, don’t you think? A stamp set, a bundle, and a half bundle ran into a bar…)

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Holly did a Zoom class and taught the All in One card. I love this idea, because it reminds me of days long ago. When I graduated from high school many, many, many years ago, one of my gifts was a stationery set. It was perfect for me, because I have always loved to write letters. This set didn’t need envelopes. You folded the card, then folded the flap down, and sealed with a gold circle sticker. So fun!

Here’s my “All in One” using the Forever Fern Bundle and the Tasteful Touches Stamp Set. I also used the Sunflowers Dies from the Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle. (A note about bundles: You can definitely order the stamps and dies separately, but if you want both the dies and stamps, it’s better to order the bundle, because you can save 10%.)

Forever Fern, Stampin' Up!, Tasteful Touches

We made one of these types of cards at classes this month, and you do not have to add layers. In fact, our class card was just one layer (with some die cuts). But I wanted to punch this one up a bit, so I added 4″ x 5-1/4″ Whisper White Cardstock layers to the bottom two panels.

Before I explain the card, here’s the cutting/scoring diagram.

First, cut a piece of 8-1/2″ x 11″ card stock to 5-1/2″ x 11″. You’ll have a 3″ x 11″ piece left over. For my card, I used Purple Posy Cardstock.

Next, score at 4-1/4″ and 8-1/2″. (If you see an extra score near the 8-1/2″ mark, ignore it. I originally had the incorrect directions. Just score at 4-1/4″ and 8-1/2″ and ignore the picture!) When you fold on the score, you have a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card with a top flap of 2-1/2″ x 5-1/2″.

You can leave the flap square, if you’d like. It still looks great. But if you’d like a point on your flap, measure 2-3/4″ in on the 2-1/2 x 5-1/2″ flap and make a little dot in pencil. Now cut from the dot to the first score line. Repeat on the other side.

Now – fold your card on the score lines, and fold the flap down. If it doesn’t like flat, just trim about 1/16″ off the bottom of the card (not the pointed end; the other end). Seriously, do you think the person you give it to is going to measure it and say, “Oops – this isn’t 11″ long!” No, they will not. They will be so happy to have this amazing card, they’re just going to do their best not to drool on it.

Now it’s time for the Forever Fern Bundle. Stamp the greenery from the stamp set (two each) in Just Jade, Highland Heather, and Misty Moonlight Classic Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, then die cut with the Forever Flourishing Dies. I added some Vellum Cardstock and Gold Foil leaves using the Sunflowers Dies.

Layer them on one of the Whisper White panels. I added a strip of the Just Jade Gingham Ribbon from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack, and a bow of Just Jade Ribbon.

On the bottom panel, Stamp the sentiment from Tasteful Touches in Gorgeous Grape Classic Ink, then stamp more greenery from Forever Fern in Just Jade Classic Ink.

Since I’m not mailing this card (I’m giving it to my mom), I added some Pearls around the greenery and sentiment. You can mail these, but mine was getting a bit thick with all the greenery and pearls, and I didn’t want any to get lost in the mail.

I stamped a few more of the Forever Fern images on the front and back. Then, for fun, I stamped some greenery in Just Jade Classic Ink on Just Jade Cardstock, then die-cut the image from the card stock and an Adhesive Sheet to make a sticker to hold the card closed. You can also use circle punches/dies, Adhesive Sheets, and Foil Sheets. How fun is that?

Now, please head over to Jackie’s and Susan’s blogs to see their favorites! I can’t wait till tomorrow to see.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy! Have a lovely day.
