When I am an Old Lady, I Shall Wear Purple…
This is a fun poem by Jenny Joseph. My kids would say, “Mom, you already are an old lady!” And according to the CDC, I am “elderly.” (That was the scariest part of the current information about the Coronavirus – learning that I’m elderly. Who knew?)
Anyway – our BS&J Stamp Off Challenge this week is “The Color Purple.”
Purple is one of my favorite colors – and was even before I was “elderly,” and, of course, Amelia loves it too. Whenever we have a choice of colors, we choose purple. Both of us.
Stampin’ Up!® has lots of fun purples these days – Purple Posy, Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, Blackberry Bliss, and Rich Razzleberry. (If I forgot one, please feel free to let me know!) I used all but Rich Razzleberry for the challenge today. Here’s my card.
I love the Lily Impressions Designer Series Paper (DSP), one of the Level 1 Sale-a-bration options. I especially like the solid color designs. And the Blackberry Bliss design is my favorite. I used a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of this for my card.
Before I adhered the DSP to a Gorgeous Grape card base, I die-cut a butterfly from the DSP using the Springtime Impressions Dies. Then I reversed the die-cut so that the floral image was on top, then adhered it and the DSP to the Gorgeous Grape card base.
I die-cut another Springtime Impressions butterfly from Purple Posy Cardstock then adhered just the center to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals. This made it look like it was fluttering.
I stamped the sentiment from the Abstract Impressions Stamp Set using Blackberry Bliss Classic Ink on Highland Heather Cardstock, then die-cut with the Stitched Shapes Dies. For a little bling, I added some Basic Rhinestone Jewels and Gingham Gala Adhesive Backed Sequins to the card. I was so happy the Gingham Gala Adhesive Backed Sequins carried over to the Annual Catalog! These are so cute and add just the right amount of bling to a card. And the rhinestones? Love! You can color them with Stampin’ Blends or leave them “rhinestone-ish” – like I did.
So speaking of being “elderly,” I was talking with my Jonathan one day about history classes. I mentioned that we learned a lot about colonial days, the Revolutionary War, and the War Between the States (or “Civil War,” or “War of Northern Agression,” depending on where you live). We learned a little about WWI and WWII, but we didn’t know anything about Korea or Vietnam. My smarty pants kid said, “Well, Mom, really, those were more ‘Current Events’ than history.” Well, maybe Vietnam, but not Korea. I was a baby during Korea.
I hope you’re doing well and are having a wonderful week. Miss Amelia is out of school for about a month because of the Coronovirus. Her dad has the next 12 days off, and I think her mom and stepdad also have some time off now. So I’m not sure how much time I’ll have with her in the next few weeks. But the time we’ve had together has been amazing. Yesterday we made a thank you card for parents who work in health care and are helping to keep us safe and healthy. Today she wrote out our shopping list, because we were low on groceries. And, of course, Monday, she made the leprechaun trap to save her teacher. She’s such an amazing little girl. I know I’m a little biased, but I can’t imagine a more perfect grand!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
