Thinking of You

One question I’m often asked is, “How do you pick the colors for your cards?” There are several ways, actually. Sometimes, I pick the Designer Series Paper (DSP) first, then work with the colors in it. Sometimes I choose a color that seems perfect for a certain stamp set. Sometimes my gorgeous little helper says, “Seesa, make a purple card.” And then there are times that I look at my paper stacks and say, “Oh, my! I have really stocked up on Very Vanilla. Have I not gone vintage for awhile?” That’s what happened here.

Forever Blossoms, Beautiful Moments, Stampin' Up!

I was working on cards for a couple of weeks’ worth of blog posts, and this idea came to me. I love how it turned out! All the stamps, dies, and ribbon are from the Stampin’ Up!® January-June Mini Catalog.

First, I stamped the large flower spray and several leaves and blossoms from the Forever Blossoms Stamp Set in Early Espresso Classic Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock. Next, I colored them with Light Calypso Coral, Light Petal Pink, and Light & Dark Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends, then die-cut with the Cherry Blossoms Dies. (And, of course, you know you can bundle the stamps and dies and save 10%.)

Next, I embossed a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock and sponged Soft Suede Ink over it. I layered the flowers over this piece and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. (A few of the leaves and blossoms are adhered with SNAIL, but most are raised a bit.)

I stamped the sentiment from the Beautiful Moments Stamp Set in Early Espresso Ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock. I punched with the Pretty Label Punch, then trimmed a bit so it would be an oval. And then I sponged with more Soft Suede Classic Ink.

I adhered the flower layer to a Very Vanilla card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals, then added the sentiment to the corner of the card (also with Stampin’ Dimensionals). A little Petal Pink Metallic Edge Ribbon completed the card.

I love the dusty, aged look of vintage cards. I think it’s because if you mess up, it’s ok! Just rip or crumple or add more ink. (And now, I have my dear friend Susan itching, because she has hives thinking of crumpling and ripping paper. Susan and Jackie are very clean stampers and don’t need a fix for covering mistakes.)

Luckily this card did not give me hives (thank you for that) because it is beautiful. I love that background and you did a great job coloring the flowers!

Buffy, I love the way you’ve layered in the extra flowers. And that background is stunning with the flowers. But you’re working ahead on blog posts??!! Has my dear Buffy been replaced?

What a gorgeous card! I love the soft colours and vintage look. And that embossing – you didn’t mention the name of the folder! (have you gone rogue??!)

Thank you Deborah! No rogue-ness (this time, anyway). The Stone 3D Embossing Folder is part of a Level 2 Sale-a-bration bundle – Power of Hope (a stamp set and embossing folder). I borrowed it, so forgot to add it since it’s not in my “stash!” Thanks for the reminder.
