Happy Monday, Stamping Friends! We had the most beautiful weekend. The weather was lovely and our snow is all gone. I love a fresh snow, but when it lingers and gets dirty, I’m ready for it to melt. It looks like the milder weather will continue through this week, then it turns back to winter on Friday.
I hope you’re enjoying the new Stampin’ Up!® January-June Mini Catalog as well as Sale-a-bration. I sure am. I think I may be enjoying it a bit too much; I have almost everything in the Sale-a-bration brochure now. But I got started in November at OnStage, so I’ve had almost three months to collect the free products. It’s not so bad when you look at it like that, right?
Here’s a card using the Happy Birthday to You Stamp Set in the Sale-a-bration catalog. You can have it free with a $50 order from the current catalogs, Paper Pumpkin Prepaid kits (3-, 6-, and 12-month), and other current online products – excluding hostess products.
I was on the fence about this set. I wanted it, because I love cake and I always need a good birthday set. But there were other products I wanted too. Then Stampin’ Up!® announced that they will be releasing products that coordinate with Sale-a-bration products, and one of the coordinating products was Birthday Dies that coordinated with this set. How could I pass that up? Especially when Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators can preorder these products now. (Answer: I couldn’t.) Even though I’ll only use it for blogging through March 31, I can still use it for family and friends’ birthday cards. You can order the coordinating dies for this set beginning February 4, 2020 – and they will be available while supplies last through March 31, 2020. (Hint: Don’t wait until March. Order them as soon as you can!)
First, I sponged a 3-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White Cardstock with Flirty Flamingo, Mango Melody, and Pool Party Classic Ink. I love this soft background. (yes, this is a weird sized panel. But keep reading for more information.)
Next, I stamped the cake image in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on another piece of Whisper White Cardstock. Then I die-cut the cake with the coordinating Birthdays die. Since I wanted the flowers to stand up a bit, I die-cut those from the cake. (The first die cut everything; the second die cut just the flowers out of the cake image.) And then I colored the flowers using Mango Melody, Flirty Flamingo, and Pretty Peacock Stampin’ Blends. I colored the cake with Pool Party Stampin’ Blends. I left the cake stand white, but I did cover it with Clear Wink of Stella to sparkle it up a bit.
I adhered the cake to the sponged background, then added the flowers back in using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Oh, wait! There’s a splatter stamp in this set. Well, I had to use that! I stamped it randomly around the cake and then stamped the sentiment using Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin’ Ink.
I had a leftover Pretty Peacock card base from last month’s card classes (which explains the odd dimensions of the sponged layer), so I added the stamped/sponged panel to that using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then I added Basic Rhinestone Jewels to the flower centers.
Since the card base had been cut with a shorter front flap, I sponged a 5/8″ piece of Whisper White with the same colors are my background (Flirty Flamingo, Pool Party, and Melon Mango, in case you’ve forgotten) and adhered it to the inside edge of the card.
This lets me know where to stop writing on the inside of the card so the writing won’t show from the front.
I know exactly who this card is going to. I had two BFFs in college – my roommate and the first friend I made my freshman year. This card is going to Nodie in Maryland. I was a mess in college (still growing up, I guess), and Nodie got me through a lot of dark days. She and my older son also share a birthday, so there’s another connection.
My current BFF is my husband. Although we decided not to give each other gifts this year, because we have everything we could ever need or want, Mike bought me a new laptop for Christmas. I love it, and I finally got time this weekend to transfer files and set it up like I want. Whew! While I love new electronics, I hate setting them up like I want. I think Mike or one of the boys has always done this in the past, but the boys have moved out since the last laptop, and Mike was in Atlanta, so I had to grow up and do this myself. So far, though, it’s going well. I have a few things I need to switch to default, but for the most part, it’s been a breeze! Honestly, though, I mostly use my laptop for blogging, photo and video editing, and word processing. Everything else mostly happens on my phone or tablet.
