3-D Sympathy Card

Welcome to another StampOff Friday! I cannot believe it’s almost 2020. We had a lovely Christmas dinner with all the kids (non-traditional; we were tired of turkey and several family members aren’t fond of ham, so we enjoyed steak and salmon!), then visited my parents for dessert. I had offered to take the food to their house and have dinner there with the kids, but Mom thought that might be a bit much for Dad’s first day home. Turns out, she was right (as she usually is). The home health care nurse and some therapists were there to check on him until well after dinner time.

The best news – he’s getting stronger every day. Being in an uncomfortable hospital bed for a week took a toll on his strength. They ordered a wheelchair for him to use when he came home. However, when they stopped at the store to pick it up, that chair was out of stock. That turned out to be a good thing. Dad walked into the house (and up two steps!) and has been fine without it. With each step, he gets a little more confident. Thank you all for your prayers, well wishes, and positive thoughts for my dad and mom. I appreciate all of them!

Now – for our Stamp Off! challenge this week. We’re making Thinking of You or Sympathy cards. I CASEd Christy’s card from our December Demonstrator Gathering Make & Take for my sympathy card. Here’s Christy’s card.

How fun is this gatefold card? Christy used new products from the upcoming January – June Mini Catalog (Timeless Tulips Stamp Set and Tulip Builder Punch, which you can bundle and save 10%) and the 2020 Sale-a-bration Brochure (Lily Impressions Designer Series Paper). I missed most of the meeting, because Amelia had her school Christmas Concert that night. Christy was sweet enough to make me one, though, and it’s gorgeous.

Here’s my CASE of her card.

I stamped the tulip image from the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set seven times on Purple Posy Cardstock using Highland Heather Classic Ink. Then I punched them with the Tulip Builder Punch. I scored each tulip down the center, and folded with the stamped side in. Then I simply adhered all the folded tulips together using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive, making sure to keep the folded edges straight and together as I stacked the punched tulips.

Because the Annual Catalog gets a little neglected after the seasonal catalogs arrive, I used the Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper (DSP) on my Soft Suede card base. Then I die-cut an oval from Pool Party Cardstock using the Stitched Shapes Dies, and stamped the sentiment from Timeless Tulips in Soft Suede Classic Ink. I kept it a little to the right of center so there would be room for the tulip on the left. I let the tulip hang over the edge a bit.

It needed a little greenery, so I punched the leaf from Pear Pizzazz Cardstock and positioned it so there would be a tiny stem under the tulip and leaf along the side. This makes me smile, because when kids pick flowers (at least my kids and my granddaughter), they always leave a very small stem. I usually “float” the flowers in a shallow dish of water until the children are old enough to remember to leave a longer stem for a vase. (Hey, I’m just happy they want to share the flowers with me!)

Here’s the inside of the card.

This uses the medium and small flowers from the Timeless Tulips Stamp Set stamped in Petal Pink three to four times using the Stamparatus, and partial stems in Pear Pizzazz. The sentiment (also from Timeless Tulips) is stamped in Soft Suede.

Because there are many layers on this card, be sure to add extra postage unless you are hand delivering. It would be awful to send a sympathy card “postage due.”

(So honestly, don’t you think this is more about the bunny than the snowman? Let me know in the comments. So far, it’s two to a bunch of others in favor of the bunny being the star. After the first line, the bunny upstages the snowman, don’t you think?)
