Holiday Stamp Off
Welcome to another BS&J Stamp Off! This week, we’re using a stamp from the 2019 Stampin’ Up!® Holiday Catalog. The challenge for me was selecting which one to use. I don’t have as many Holiday sets as I will have by November, but I still have several and I love them all. But I finally decided to use the Toile Christmas Stamp Set. I created a card and needed to cut out the bird. I thought to myself, “I can’t believe there’s not a die for this.” Oh, wait. There is a die. I wasn’t going to get this set. I’m a Virginia girl, and the cardinal is our state bird. Stampin’ Up!® has had several cardinal sets, and I think I may have bought them all – or at least most of them. So I wasn’t going to purchase the Toile Christmas set with another cardinal. But then Amelia saw it in the catalog. “Seesa! We can make a blue jay! Or a red jay!” I didn’t even think about a bundle; I just ordered the set for her. (The dies will be on my next order, of course. Who cares about a 10% discount when it makes a five-year-old girl happy?)
As it happens, I didn’t use that card after all for the challenge. I had a few minutes today, and created one with the Snow Front Stamp Set. I let Mike choose, and since the second card had a lot of blues, of course he picked that one.
This was super easy to create. After I placed the large evergreen stamp on an acrylic block, I inked it in Pretty Peacock Classic Ink and spritzed with water. Then I stamped it three times on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. I repeated it on the other side,
Next I added the water in Seaside Spray Classic Ink and painted it with Shimmery Crystal Effects so it would look a little more like icy water. I added the deer in Early Espresso, then some smaller evergreens in Garden Green Classic Ink.
The sky is simply Blueberry Bushel Classic Ink painted with an Aqua Painter. The ground is Soft Suede Classic Ink, again with an Aqua Painter.
For the final touch, I added some snowflakes. I stamped them in Whisper White Craft Ink, then embossed with Shimmery White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The whole effect feels very icy!
I don’t think deer would be out in a snowstorm drinking from an icy pond, but I’m not a nature expert, so what do I know? If they’re thirsty enough, maybe?
I stamped the sentiment from the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set in Blueberry Bushel Classic Ink on Seaside Spray Cardstock. Here’s a funny story. The first time I stamped it, it wasn’t “perfect,” so I stamped it again. Guess which side is up in this photo? Yep – the “bad” side. I didn’t even notice until just this minute. (I can easily take a Blueberry Bushel Stampin’ Write Marker and fill in the “ason,” though. Love those Stampin’ Write Markers, don’t you?)
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!
