Happy Birthday, Amelia!

Happy Birthday, Amelia!

Today was Miss Amelia’s 5th birthday. I can’t believe she’s five years old and in Kindergarten. She’s had a very big week. Tuesday was orientation at her school. She cried a little bit when her parents had to leave, but her teacher and some of the other students swooped in and helped her through. She had a blast, Wesley (her dad) told me. But she was exhausted! Orientation was only in the morning, so she came home and took a nap.

Wednesday was the first official day of school. Again, she crashed when she got home, which was good, because some friends of Wesley’s and Stephanie’s took her horseback riding and I’m sure she enjoyed it more after a nap. So fun!

I’ll be helping drop off and pick up from school while Wesley is on nights, so I rode with Steph to pick Amelia up today. She was so adorable. She had a birthday crown from her teacher, and pictures from her classmates. It was so sweet. She has made friends and is enjoying school. I asked her what she has learned. “I learned how to line up.” Very important life skill! She’s never had to walk in a line before, because…well, it’s hard to be in a line when you’re by yourself or walking with a parent or grandparent who insists on holding your hand!

I remember years ago, we had a phys ed teacher in our church and he was teaching the kids that day. He told the kids to “buddy up.” Several of the kids grabbed a partner, but most of the kids just looked at him. He was a little irritated that they hadn’t jumped to obey, and said, “C’mon, let’s go!” I was the helper that day, so I reminded him that over half the kids were either homeschooled or in private schools. They had no idea that “buddy up” meant “select a partner.”

Tomorrow, Amelia only has a half day of school, which pleases her dad. He’s missing his little buddy a lot. He’s had all week off so he could be there for her, and he doesn’t know what to do with his free time. This is a new thing for him!

Amelia is a huge Pokemon fan, so here’s her card and the packaging I made for her gift.

Stampin' Up!, Pokemon

The idea for the box card came from another demonstrator, Twila Davis. Box cards are quite simple to create. Here’s the tutorial I used from splitcoaststampers.com. To create the Poke-balls and Pikachu, I used lots of Stampin’ Up!® circle dies and punches. The huge circles on the gift bag are retired dies. I used ideas from Pinterest to create Evee (you can’t see it well, but it’s the Crumb Cake/Soft Suede Pokemon in the back).

I had either sold, given away, or never purchased a lot of the dies and punches used to CASE (Copy and Share Everything) the Pokemon figures, so I just winged it. Most of the punches/dies were circles, but I did use the Perennial Flower punch for ears and the Nature’s Roots dies for Evee’s neck (which you can’t see). The stamped Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Well Said Stamp Set.

I can’t wait until she sees the card. I think she’ll like it. Of course, I know she’ll love the gift inside (Pokemon, of course, and a book).

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!

Thank you, Jackie! Just about the time I learned the names of all the little ponies, she switched to Pokemon. She is enjoying school, but it’s been hard on those of us who are used to having her around! I miss my little bug.

Happy Birthday, Amelia. I remember the day you were born. How can that be 5 years ago? I love your packaging for her cute. Such a cute idea. Deep breaths, Sese.

I can’t believe it’s been five years. The first thing she said when she got in the car on her birthday was, “Seesa, I’m five!” She’s so proud to be “going on six.” I just wish she’d slow down a little. And, yes, I do need to take deep breaths!

Ah, the beginning of school! I remember the anxiety, the tears, the relief…..and it can be difficult for the children, too! You’ve done an amazing job with Amelia’s pokemon gift packaging & card, Buffy – she will love it!

Ha ha! You’re right, Deborah! I’m sure it will get easier, though. Thanks for the comments on the packaging and card. She’s already seen the gift bag. I wanted to give her something on her birthday, but her party isn’t until Sunday. So I took the bag back to refill for Sunday. 🙂
