Watercolor Retreat

Here’s a fun card I made using one of my favorite Stamping Techniques – watercoloring with the Stampin’ Up!® Stamparatus.

I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do with this set, so I started with Whisper White Cardstock. Since I ended up watercoloring, Shimmery White or Watercolor Paper would have been better, but this worked ok.

First, I placed the cabin image from the Rustic Retreat Stamp Set into the Stamparatus, then inked the stamp with Stampin’ Write Markers. I used Gray Granite for the roof, Soft Suede for the logs, Smoky Slate for the smoke and chimney, and Shaded Spruce for the trees. (Tip: If you don’t have all the markers, and you’re just starting out, use Mossy Meadow for the green. That way you only have to purchase the Neutrals Markers.)

I inked each area separately so the colors wouldn’t get too muddied, and I cleaned the stamp each time. After I was happy with the image, I filled in some areas with more ink and an Aqua Painter. Then I fussy cut the image with Paper Snips.

On the Whisper White background panel, I stamped the treeline multiple times with Shaded Spruce Classic Ink. I spritzed the stamp to give it a little more watercolored look, and I stamped repeatedly until the ink was gone.

I stamped the sentiment on Crumb Cake Cardstock with Soft Suede Classic Ink, then cut it with Paper Snips. I added two pieces of Shaded Spruce/Gold ribbon under the sentiment. This is a little sneak peek from the Holiday Catalog! You can order this ribbon beginning September 4.

I added the cabin and the sentiment to the background using Stampin’ Dimensionals, then layered to Soft Suede Cardstock, then the Soft Suede Plaid design from the 6″ x 6″ Neutrals Designer Series Paper. Finally, everything was added to a Shaded Spruce card base.
