Walmart Inspiration

Welcome back, happy crafters! Is it just me, or do you also have to start conversations with the phrase, “I’m really not creepy…”? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Lots of times I’ve been inspired by products on the shelves of a store while I’ve been shopping. I’ve also been inspired by people’s clothes. Often, it’s my stampers who inspire me, and they understand why I want to take a photo of their clothing. Strangers, though, kind of look at you like you should be locked up somewhere when you first approach them. Seriously, do people just not talk to each other any more? Anyway – tonight Mike & I were at Walmart (because, really, where else would you go for artistic inspiration?) and I passed a lady with a lovely dress on.

When I passed her, I thought, “What a beautiful dress! That would make a wonderful card.” I kept going, but then I realized I really needed a picture to remember the “essence” of her outfit. So I went back. And the conversation was something like this.

“Hi! I’m not really creepy or anything, but I make greeting cards, and I love your dress. That design would make a lovely card. Do you mind if I take a picture? I won’t include your face and I promise not to post it anywhere.” She was so adorable and sweet, and kept saying, “Sure, it’s ok! No, honey, it’s ok; go right ahead.”

Of course, at the same time, Mike realized what I was doing, and he was telling her (from a distance), “It’s ok; she does this all the time. Honestly, she’s not dangerous,” like I had some sort of weird deficiency of some sort. She probably was thinking, “Ok, her care giver is right here, so if she gets agitated, he’ll take over. It’s probably best to just go along with her.” I need to ask Mike to stop helping before I get locked up.

Anyway – here’s the card I made from her inspiration. I wish I had gotten contact information so I could send her this.

Isn’t that beautiful? I created the stripes using a retired Stampin’ Up!® mask, Stamping Sponges, and Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Whisper White Cardstock.

I stamped the flower and leaves from the To a Wild Rose Stamp Set in the Tuxedo Black ink, then colored with Lovely Lipstick, Daffodil Delight, and Call Me Clover Stampin’ Blends. Then I die-cut them using the Wild Rose Dies. If you bundle the To a Wild Rose Stamp Set and the Wild Rose Dies, you can save 10%.

The sentiment is from the Strong & Beautiful Stamp Set. I punched with the Timeless Label Punch, then trimmed the top and bottom before adding a few Lovely Lipstick flowers from the Free as a Bird Stamp Set.

I hope the lady who was wearing this dress knows how amazing she is. She was kind to a crazy stranger who wanted a picture of her dress, and that was such a kind and caring act. We need more people like her in this world!
