Sparkles & Foil

Sparkles & Foil

From August until the end of the year, our family has lots of birthdays. Usually I load up on thank you cards, but these days, I need some birthday cards.

Today I decided to play with the Stampin’ Up!® Shimmer White and Shimmer Black Embossing Powders, as well as Noble Peacock Foil Sheets and the Heirloom Frames Dies & 3D Embossing Folders.

Floral Essence, Special Celebrations, Stampin' Up!

Well, I must say, this is much more strking in person. I didn’t get a chance to take a photo until it was dark outside, so I didn’t get a good image of the foil and shimmer emboss powder.

First, I diecut an oval frame from Night of Navy Cardstock as well as the Noble Peacock Foil Sheet (Pretty Peacock) and a piece of Pretty Peacock Cardstock. Then I used the Petal Labels Dies with the Noble Peacock oval to diecut the overlay for the Night of Navy oval. How fun is it that the Petal Labels oval die coordinates with the Heirloom Dies?

Next, I stamped three small flowers from the Floral Essence Stamp Set on the small oval center of the Perfect Peacock Cardstock frame using Versamark. I heat embossed the flowers with the Shimmer White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. This does not show well in the photo, but it adds just a little shimmer to the flowers.

Next, I stamped a larger flower from the Floral Essence Stamp Set on Whisper White Cardstock using Versamark Ink. I embossed this flower using the Shimmer Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Again, the shimmer doesn’t show in the photo, but it does in real life.

I colored the flower using Dark Mango Melody and Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends, then fussy cut the flower with Paper Snips. I don’t know what it is with yellows, but they almost always smear ink for me. I’m not sure why the Stampin’ Blend smeared the black embossing powder. Any guesses? I forgot to add a floral center, so that will take the attention away from the smeariness. And I’ll go over the non-embossed areas again with the Stampin’ Blends before I send it.

I stamped the sentiment from Special Celebrations in Night of Navy Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, created a banner with Paper Snips on the right side, then rounded the corners on the left with the Detailed Trio Punch. Finally, I punched two leaves from the Noble Peacock (Old Olive) Foil Sheets.

To put it all together, I layered a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of the Neutrals Designer Series Paper (Night of Navy) to a Night of Navy card base. Then I added the frames in the center and the flowers and sentiment as shown. The Night of Navy frame, the Mango/Daffodil Flower, and the sentiment are all adhered with Stmapin’ Dimensionals.

Hi Buffy, this card is beautiful! I didn’t realize the neutrals dsp had such varied patterns (I guess I didn’t look carefully at the catalog.) I’ve heard (but not confirmed) that the alcohol pens can interact with embossing powder and smear, and that there’s also a possibility of damaging the pens. Most YouTubers I watch avoid heat embossing if they are using alcohol pens. There is one person I watch who does, but she always gives a warning to do so at your own risk. I hope this helps 😊
