Spotlight on Birds

I have another card for you using the Stampin’ Up!® Free as a Bird Stamp Set. This is such a cute set, and the spotlighting technique is so fun, especially if you’re not a huge fan of coloring. I love to color, but some people get a little overwhelmed if they have a big area to color, so spotlighting is perfect for them.

Here’s the card.

First, I embossed the front of the Pool Party card with the Country Floral 3D Embossing Folder. Then, I added a strip of the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper (DSP). This paper is so gorgeous, by the way. I love the colors and the patterns. In fact I am in love with almost every pack of DSP in the Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog. They hit it totally out of the park this year.

Next, I stamped the birds on a branch on Whisper White Cardstock using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then die-cut with the Stitched Nested Labels Dies. These can be bundled with the Free as a Bird Stamp Set for a 10% savings.

I used the Stitched Shapes Dies to die-cut part of the bird image, then colored the die-cut birds and flowers with Stampin’ Blends. I used Mossy Meadow, Calypso Coral, Pool Party, and Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends to color the spotlighted birds. Using the Layering Circles Dies, I die-cut a slightly larger circle from Basic Black Cardstock, layered the colored image to the Basic Black circle, then placed the spotlighted birds back into the picture using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Give the spotlighting technique a try when you get a chance. It’s a fun twist. You can also give the birds that aren’t in the spotlight a light color wash if you want. You don’t want them to stand out too much, because the spotlighted images are the focus. But if you use a light touch, it can add a lot to your card!
