Thanks for Being You

Sometimes when you tell people something, they look at you like you’re trying to pull something over on them. Does that happen to you? Like when I tell people I’m an introvert, they usually laugh, because I get along well with most people and can easily talk to strangers (and friends). And talk, and talk, and talk.  But being an introvert doesn’t mean I don’t like people or even don’t like being around people. It means I need my “alone” time to recharge. Mike, on the other hand, is energized when he’s around people. If he’s alone for long stretches at a time, his energy starts to flag.

Another example is when I tell people birds creep me out, and then they see all the cards I make with Stampin’ Up!® bird sets. They think I can’t be telling the truth about that.

The fact is, I am creeped out by real birds. I’ve told the story before, so I won’t bore you with it again. If you’re new to my blog, I’ll just say there was an incident from my childhood involving a cherry tree, a ladder, and a blackbird that pretty much scarred me for life. (No, I didn’t fall off the ladder, but it was a close call.)

But the Stampin’ Up!® birds are adorable, and I really am loving the Free as a Bird Stamp Set from the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog.

This is one of the cards I made while I was away last weekend. It’s a super fun and simple mirror technique using the Silicone Craft Sheet. You can see the instructions (and a video) here.

For this card, I first stamped the birds on Whisper White Cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then I colored them with Light & Dark Mossy Meadow, Pool Party, and Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. I also used a little Calypso Coral on the beaks and some Crumb Cake for the dirt. Then I die-cut the image using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies. These dies can be bundled with the Free as a Bird Stamp Set for a 10% savings.

Next, I added a strip of Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper (DSP) to the So Saffron card base. Originally, the card was a landscape design with the 5-1/2″ side horizontal, but when I placed the birds over the DSP, it looked weird. So I pulled the bird label off and flipped the card to a portrait layout and added the birds at a 90 degree angle to the DSP. Better – but now I had little glue blobs from where the Stampin’ Dimensionals had been. Hence the strategic placement of the 2019-2021 In Color Faceted Dots.

It needed a little something under the birds, so I added a strip of the Pressed Petals Washi Tape. I love that design! And, finally, I added the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I love how all our products work together, whether they’re meant to or not.
