Don’t Wear White When You’re “Messy Stamping”

One would think that not wearing white when you’re spritzing and doing other messy stamp techniques would be a given. But one would be wrong.

Here’s the thing…I never wear white. Ever. I am messy. I’ve always been messy. You’d think I’d grow out of that, but, again, you’d be wrong. As my grandmother always reminded me, I am “hoodly.” I know what that means, but I can’t define it. I think it just means, “you’re really messy and you break things,  but if you’d be more careful, that would change.” It doesn’t matter how careful I am, I’m like Pigpen in the Charlie Brown cartoons. No matter how hard I try, ink (and coffee and spaghetti sauce) are attracted to me. Maybe it’s a magnetic thing; I don’t know.

I think the last time I wore white was at my wedding. Ok, really, that’s not quite true. The “uniform” for the choir I sang in used to be white top/long black skirt or pants. But it’s hard to get coffee, spaghetti sauce, or ink on a top while you’re singing. (It’s hard, but I could do it, I’ll bet!) Fortunately, I never wore the uniform when I was drinking, eating, or stamping, so I was safe.

While I rarely wear prints, especially in “bottoms,” I found a cute pair of capris that I decided would be perfect for summer. They had gorgeous Melon Mambo, Grapefruit Grove,  and Blueberry Bushel flowers with Mossy Meadow, Granny Apple Green, and Shaded Spruce leaves on a white background. I loved them, so snatched them up before we left for our two weeks in “the South.”

Jon and Adrianna invited us out for breakfast today, so I decided to wear my snazzy new pants. And when I got home, I needed to work on some swaps. I wanted to use the new Stampin’ Up!® Pigment Sprinkles. What was I thinking? Melon Mambo, Mango Melody, Granny Apple Green, and Coastal Cabana sprinkles spritzed with water? And me in white-ish pants? So far, I haven’t noticed any spritzes on my floral capris, but I was actually very careful, and trying not to be “hoodly.” But it begs a couple questions.

Why didn’t I change clothes before I started “messy stamping?” Why didn’t I wear an apron if I didn’t want to change clothes? After all, I have three gorgeous stamping aprons. Who knows? It’s probably why kids go outside in their socks. It used to drive me crazy when my boys would run around outside in their socks. No way were those grungy socks coming clean, and I wasn’t going to throw them out. So my kids had grungy gray socks until they grew out of the “walking outside in socks” stage. (This happened to coincide with the time they started doing their own laundry, by the way.)

So here’s one of the cards I (almost) sacrificed my wardrobe for.

I have tried and tried to stamp with Pigment Sprinkles, but never got a good image. The idea was to sprinkle the, um, sprinkles on your stamp, then spritz, then stamp. Every time I tried, it looked horrible. I almost gave up, but today I decided to try something different. I sprinkled sprinkles on a stamp block, then spritzed the block with water and used that as a stamp pad. Love it! That’s how I did the fern images from the Daisy Lane Stamp Set for this card. After it dried, I stamped the stems in Shaded Spruce Classic Ink.

I stamped the medium daisy from the Daisy Lane Stamp Set three times for each flower on Highland Heather Cardstock using Highland Heather and Blueberry Bushel Classic Ink. Then I punched with the Medium Daisy Punch and layered the punched flowers over the stems. Oh, by the way, if you bundle the Daisy Lane Stamp Set and Medium Daisy Punch, you can save 10%. And – the Daisy Lane Stamp Set coordinates with the Daisy Delight Stamp Set and Daisy Punch. I love the way Stampin’ Up!® products coordinate, don’t you?

For the two outer flowers, I stamped the floral center from the Daisy Delight Stamp Set in Crushed Curry Classic Ink on Daffodil Delight Cardstock, then punched. I used a retired 1/4″ circle punch, but the 1/2″ circle punch works just as well. For the center flower, I used a Perennial Essence Floral Center. Love these! The sentiment is stamped in Blueberry Bushel Classic Ink.

This is such a fun and super simple card. While the sprinkles stamped images are drying, you can stamp and punch the flowers. Then stamp the stems, add the flowers, centers, and sentiment and you’re finished!
