The Perfect Day

The Perfect Day

We’ve had lots of perfect days on our little vacation. This week, the weather forecast has called for thunderstorms every day. While it can be a little daunting to see that on your weather app the entire week you’re going to be at the beach, we have to remind ourselves we are in Florida. Most of the storms last about 10-20 minutes and then are over. And almost always the rain has started when we were ready to head back inside anyway. I think it’s God’s way of keeping us from frying our lily white Virginia skin.

Tomorrow we’ll be taking Wesley to the airport in the morning, and then we’re meeting some of my Stampin’ Up!® team members for ice cream. I’m excited to see Rose, who moved to northern Florida a few months ago, and her downline Kay, who is visiting her this week. Tomorrow night is our regular team meeting, so, although the three of us won’t be at the meeting, we’ll have our own “mini meeting” in the Sunshine State.

I’m also hoping the ice cream date will distract Amelia from missing her dad. Since I’m her “primary caregiver” when her parents are working, I reminded them several months ago that they would need backup care for the two weeks Mike & I would be gone. Since Wes works 12-hour shifts, he was able to get almost two weeks off by simply taking four days of leave time – which was much easier than trying to find a babysitter for two weeks. And since he was going to be off anyway, we convinced him to bring Amelia and spend the second week with us in Florida. But after spending two weeks with her dad every day, I know Amelia is going to miss him a lot. Even on the nights he’s working, he makes sure to wake up in time to stop by the house for a few hours to see her before he goes to work.

Those two have such a special relationship. It’s so fun to watch them together. Wesley never had much use for kids, even when he was one. He wanted to hang with the big kids. But the minute he saw his daughter, that changed forever. He is an amazing dad. But you probably checked into my blog to see a creative project, not hear me gush about my kid, right? (Wait until next week. Jon will be the one I’m gushing over. Be forewarned.)

Here’s another card I made for Mike using the Come Sail Away Suite. It will probably be his Father’s Day card, although I have at least one other that I made for him back home. Maybe this will just be an “I love you” card. He has a whole drawer full of those that he’s kept over the years. (I think Wes learned a lot of his “dad skills” from his own dad. Mike is a pretty awesome husband, dad, and granddad!)

Come Sail Away, Stampin' Up!

No stamps were used for this card. It was so much fun to put together, though. I made it very quickly the other day before we went to the beach.

First, I chose several elements from the Come Sail Away Memories & More Card Pack. These are so fun. You can use them for so many creative projects – memory keeping, cards, 3-D projects…That’s why they’re “Memories & More.” I trimmed the frame card just a bit at the top and bottom, then layered it over the lighthouse card. I layered a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Blueberry Bushel Cardstock to a Crumb Cake card base. Before I added the Memories & More cards, though, I decided I needed a little something to break up the Blueberry Bushel layer and tie the lighter blue into the card. I chose a striped pattern from the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper (DSP). Instead of stamping a sentiment, I chose a couple self-adhesive die-cuts from the Memories & More pack. I thought this summed up my relationship with Mike. Every day together is pretty much a perfect day. Well, for the most part, anyway! We are human, after all. But I can’t think of too many bad days in almost 37 years. We both tend to focus on positive things instead of what’s gone wrong, and try to find humor in every situation. Like the time our car blew up on the way home from vacation one year…but that’s another story.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!
