Happy Birthday, Wes
Saturday was my Wesley’s birthday. Since he had to work all weekend, we celebrated the Monday after his birthday. My mom had a tradition when we were kids, and I’ve continued it with the boys. Each year, the birthday kid gets to choose the entree and the cake/dessert. This year, Wes chose lasagne and a coconut pudding cake. Since several family members are trying to limit (or cut out) wheat and sugar, I made a zucchini lasagne and a sugar/wheat free coconut cake as well as the full sugar and wheat varieties.
I have to say that I really enjoyed the zucchini lasagne. It took a while to squeeze all the water out of the zucchini before baking, but it tasted great.
Here’s the card I made Wes for his birthday.
I got this idea from demonstrator Amanda Fowler. I created a background using Shimmery White Cardstock with Pacific Point, Night of Navy, and Balmy Blue ink refills. So fun! Then I added a stamped and die-cut lighthouse from the Sailing Home Stamp Set and Smooth Sailing Dies. These are new products in the 2019-2020 Stampin’ Up!® catalog, and they’ll be available June 4. You’ll also be able to bundle the stamps and dies and save 10%.
I stamped the lighthouse in Night of Navy Classic Ink, then added a little color using Stampin’ Blends in Balmy Blue and Daffodil Delight. I die-cut the wheel and anchor from Copper Foil Sheets, then die-cut the wheel a second time using Early Espresso Cardstock. For a fun touch, I used the Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock (also new June 4) for the seaweed die-cuts.
After layering a 4″ x 5-1/4″ sheet of Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper (DSP) to a Balmy Blue card base, I added the Shimmery White layer and die-cuts. The Well Written Dies in Night of Navy provided the sentiment.
You’re going to love the new Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog! If you need a copy, let me know and I’ll get one to you. (Be sure I have your address!)
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!

I agree with Jackie that Wes will love the card. I’m thinking I should go nautical with a birthday card for my husband. Your post was so very timely. I’d love to have your wheat/sugar free coconut cake recipe.

I love all of the layers, and the background is terrific! Funny – I have the same tradition for my boys; the birthday boy gets to choose the meal! 🙂
