You’re the Best

You’re the Best

If you know me or have followed my blog for awhile, you probably know how much I love my mom and dad. I had the best childhood ever, and my parents were the reason for that. Honestly, I had a “Leave it to Beaver,” “Ozzy & Harriet,” “My Three Sons,” and more 50’s-60’s TV shows childhood. My parents were always there when we needed them, they taught us everything we needed to survive in the world, and we had lots of interactions with grandparents, aunts, uncles,  and cousins. I had the best childhood ever.

Now that I’m a senior adult, you’d think I wouldn’t need my parents any more, but you’d be wrong. I’m heading to Stampin’ Up!® OnStage this weekend, and we have lots of animals that need attention.

Mike & I are dog people. We’ve had a dog almost always since we’ve been married. He had two and I had one when we got married. Somehow, my parents dognapped and kept mine after our marriage. My parents are also tricky; did I mention that? But from 1982 when we got married until 2015 when our last beloved dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we had dogs.

Since 2015, we have rescued two cats and another dog. And now I’m headed to Charlotte. The cats are pretty easy to leave. As long as they have fresh litter in their boxes, food, and water, they are good. But the dog? He’s a little higher maintenance. He jumped off the couch recently and hurt his leg, so he’s on meds. My boys were ready to take care of him while we were gone, but then my parents offered to keep him for the weekend. My parents are saints.

Max is a wonderful dog, but he’s a little more high maintenance than my parent are used to. So this is the card I made to thank them for taking care of him (and for everything else they do for us).

Stampin' Up!, Touches of Texture, Friendly Expressions

I used one of my favorite techniques – Crayon Resist – for this card. Simply stamp an image (this one is from Touches of Texture) in Jet Black Stazon ink on Glossy White Cardstock. I have heard you can watercolor with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I haven’t really tried it, but others have with great success. Apparently it’s also written on the stamp pad case that you can use it to watercolor if you let the ink dry completely, especially if you heat set the ink. I have not seen that because the print is very small. Anyway, I tried using Memento for the flowers. I didn’t heat set and this is Glossy White Cardstock, so what I feared did happen.

The second step is to take a white crayon and fill in any parts of the image you don’t want to have color. (So basically, it’s another “resist” technique.) Fortunately Amelia thinks white crayons are pranks, so she won’t use them; I have a brand new White Crayola Crayon with a nice tip. But – the crayon did smear the Memento ink, so I redid it using Stazon. Much better!

Finally, use a Sponge Brayer to cover the front of the Glossy White Cardstock with ink. I used Coastal Cabana. Beautiful!!

The sentiment (also stamped in StazOn) is from the Friendly Expressions Stamp Set. It’s perfect for this card! I added a few of the Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins to the front of the card. I love the self-adhesive sequins! They are so easy to use.

So – thanks, Dad & Mom, for taking care of my little fella. You’re the best!

I’ll have OnStage updates beginning Friday night on my Stamping with Buffy facebook page.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!
