Valentine Stamp Off

Welcome to another Stamp Off Friday with my friends Susan and Jackie! This week, we’re sharing Valentines. I don’t typically make a lot of Valentines. Usually I make one for Mike and one for my parents. For the kids, I create a little treat pouch with candy. These days, though, the kids are all eating healthy, so sugary treats aren’t as appreciated as they were a decade or more ago. However, it has been suggested to me that card makers need to create cards for all occasions – especially Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and birthdays. So I have created quite a few Valentines this year. I tried to make them a little more generic, so they can be used for lots of occasions. Probably Mike will find them on his desk or pillow on days I’m feeling especially appreciative. (Honestly, he’s the best. Sometimes I forget to tell him, so now I have cards stocked up!)

Here’s my latest Valentine card.

This was inspired by a card Jackie posted earlier this week. I’ve been creating lots of quick and easy cards lately, so Jackie’s card called to my “inner vintage” crafting self. (You can see Jackie’s card here.)

First, I’ll tell you that this was not the card I created for this challenge. I had a totally different card, but after I made this one, I asked Amelia which she liked better. This one won, and I’m glad, because it’s also my favorite.

This is definitely a card for “avid stampers.” I used two stamp sets, an embossing folder, two sets of die-cuts, and embellishments – plus there’s sponging. I have to say, this card makes me happy, although I have some friends who love clean, elegant lines and they may be breaking out in hives right now. (You know who you are, and I apologize! In my defense, though, I didn’t crumple or tear, so there’s that.)

Details

Here are the details.

First, stamp a few splatters from the Artisan Textures Stamp Set in Sahara Sand Classic Ink on a 4″ x 5-1/4″ Very Vanilla Cardstock layer. Then run it through the Big Shot with the gorgeous Lace Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the 2019 Stampin’ Up!® Occasions Catalog. Finally, sponge the edges with more Sahara Sand Classic Ink.

Die-cut a label from Very Vanilla Cardstock using the Stitched Label Framelits. Sponge the edges with Sahara Sand Classic Ink.

Die-cut the two sets of roses from Very Vanilla Cardstock using the Petals & More Thinlits Dies. Place the negative from the diecuts into the Stamparatus, then fit the coordinating stamps from the Petal Palette Stamp Set into the negative spaces. Close the plate to adhere the stamps, then re-insert the die-cuts into the negative spaces. Ink the stamps with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamp onto the die-cuts. Color the flowers with Calypso Coral and Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends.

Die-cut the leaf sprig in the Petals & More Thinlits Dies from Mossy Meadow Cardstock. I snipped mine into a few pieces so I could spread it around the die-cut label.

Stamp the sentiment from the Petal Palette Stamp Set onto the Stitched Label diecut using Mossy Meadow Classic Stampin’ Ink. Adhere the label to the embossed layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then adhere the flowers and leaves around the edges of the label.

Add a few Pearl Basic Jewels (my go-to embellishment for vintage cards) around the card. Tie a bow using the Very Vanilla ribbon in the Tea Room Ribbon Combo Pack and add it to the card with a Glue Dot. Adhere to a Very Vanilla card base.

If you’re not a fan of vintage, simply leave off the sponging and the Artisan Textures stamps. Then you’ll have a card more like Jackie’s.
