All My Love

All My Love

Valentine’s Day is on the way, so I decided to create an early Valentine for my hubby. Since Valentine’s Day is several weeks from now, I’m thinking I may lose this card before February 14, so I may just give it to him now.

I’m waiting for my fun January Paper Pumpkin kit to arrive. Amelia and I are going to have so much fun making little treats for everyone with that! In the meantime, I grabbed my new Be Mine Stitched Framelits Dies from the Stampin’ Up!® Occasions Catalog to create this.

The Backstory

There’s a story behind the Gold Foil frame around the Blushing Bride heart. (If you don’t want to know, that’s ok. Just skip to the Card Details.)

My mom is famous for “repurposing.” She was a repurposer before it was a thing. She didn’t throw out anything that could be used again. We didn’t call it repurposing, though. It probably had a much less cool and trendy name. She and Dad have always been thrifty and refused to waste money on something they could make or fix themselves, or recreate from something else. Now, it’s just habit for them. “Why should I throw out a perfectly good grocery bag? I can use it for something later.” Sadly, I have inherited that trait. There’s a very fine line between repurposing and hoarding. I’m teetering over the edge, I’m afraid.

In Mom’s case, she had a Victoria’s Secret shopping bag she had saved. I’m thinking Mom probably got a gift in that bag from someone else, because I’m not sure my mom has ever stepped into a Victoria’s Secret store. “You could freeze to death in that thing!” was her comment when she saw a catalog. “Well, Mom, you usually wear clothes over your underwear if you’re not a super model on the runway or in a catalog. Or Madonna in the 80s.” She still looked skeptical. But I digress.

One year she gave me a birthday gift and used the shopping bag as a gift bag. Why not, right? It was gorgeous – all pink and gold and white. She stamped a cute image on copy paper and pasted it over the store logo, and voilà – cute gift bag.

For her birthday this year, I couldn’t find an appropriate gift bag in my stash, but I had saved the VS one. I decided to re-repurpose it. I don’t have a photo, but I removed the copy paper that had seen better days before spending 10 years in my basement, cut a rectangle of Melon Mambo to cover the logo, then die-cut some gold foil hearts and a Glimmer Paper “Happy Birthday” to add to it. It was gorgeous, I must say.

When I grabbed the dies to create this card, I realized that the gold frame for the heart was still in the die. Oops! But it turned out to be a wonderful thing for me this week.

Card Details

I cut the heart from Blushing Bride Cardstock, then ran it through the Big Shot with the new Lace Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the Floral Romance Suite in the Stampin’ Up!® Occasions Catalog.

Next, I die-cut a banner from Berry Burst Cardstock using the Bunch of Banners Framelits Dies from the Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog,  then stamped I Love You from the coordinating Banners for You Stamp Set in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. The All My Love Designer Series Paper (DSP) would have been gorgeous on this card, but, sadly, I also hoard DSP. I’m doing better, but I’m trying not to buy more than I’ll use, so I don’t have it. Instead, I used a bit of the Needlepoint Nook DSP as a background for the heart.

After layering the DSP to the Berry Burst card base, I added a little of the Petal Pink/Whisper White 5/8″ Variegated Ribbon to the DSP, then added the Blushing Bride heart with the gold frame over it. Finally, the sentiment went on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The Be Mine Stitched Framelits Dies and the coordinating Meant To Be Stamp Set (which you can bundle for a 10% savings through June 3) are part of the All My Love Suite in the Stampn’ Up!® Occasions Catalog. There are two bundles in this suite – Meant To Be and Forever Lovely. You can see products from the All My Love Suite in this video from Stampin’ Up!®.

There is something about saving shopping bags! I save mine and I use them often! Love the card. The Gold Foil was a great find!

Who doesn’t save shopping bags to re-use later?! I loved your ‘backstory’ about the gold heart 🙂
