Let it Ride

When I saw the Let it Ride Stamp Set in the 2019 Stampin’ Up!® Occasions Catalog, I knew I had to get it – and not just because Amelia loves horses. The sentiments in the set and so encouraging and upbeat.

These sentiments are great for graduations, birthdays, encouragement, new job, and lots more. And it’s a perfect set for animal lovers.

I wanted to try an alcohol ink background with this. I had a couple “false starts,” but here’s the end result.

Isn’t that fun? I started with a piece of Glossy White Cardstock. I used felt pads and an old address stamp to make the applicator.

DIY Applicator

Is anyone else old enough to remember these? I peeled off the rubber, then attached the hook part of velcro (I think it’s the hook part; the rougher piece) where the rubber used to be.

I bought some felt pieces, but you can easily cut your own. You can also buy the applicator, but I’m cheap, so I made mine. Simply set the stamp over the felt and it sticks beautifully!

Creating the Background

Color the felt pad using a Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blend (I used the lighter one). Then use a Stampin’ Spritzer to spritz rubbing alcohol over the felt pad. Rub over the Glossy White Cardstock. Easy! If you need more ink, simply scribble more, then spritz. If it’s not dark enough, add more ink. (Note: After I re-scribbled, I scribbled on scrap paper with my Stampin’ Blend to remove any excess rubbing alcohol from the tip.)

Repeat the process with a Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blend until you’re happy with the results. After I finished, I added a little more ink direct to paper and immediately used my spritzed applicator to blend it.

Adding the Scene

Stamp the horse and the treeline images in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, then color with Soft Suede, Basic Black, and Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends. I used the dark marker in each color.

Finally, stamp the sentiment in Memento ink.

Finishing the Card

Layer the stamped panel to a 4-1/8″ x 5-3/8″ piece of Share What You Love Specialty Designer Series Paper, then to a Mossy Meadow card base. I was going to add some linen thread to it, but it looked “forced” – like I was thinking, “Oh, I have to add some kind of ribbon or embellishment to this!” After working with it for a bit, I decided it didn’t need anything else.
