Happy Birthday, Mom!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

In honor of my mom’s birthday today, I finally inked up the hummingbird from the Stampin’ Up!® Occasions Catalog Set Humming Along. I was happy with the way it turned out, but best of all, Mom liked it too.

Stampin' Up!, Humming Along

Details

First, create a watercolor wash on a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Shimmery White Cardstock.  Simply paint Balmy Blue Classic Ink on the cardstock with an Aqua Painter.

While the background is drying, stamp the hummingbird image in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on a piece of Whisper White Cardstock. Color with Stampin’ Blends Markers. I used Combo Packs in Balmy Blue, Highland Heather, and Mossy Meadow, and the Dark Calypso Coral.

Diecut the image using the Hummingbird Framelits Dies. (Or, if you’re like me and forgot to purchase the dies, you can fussy cut them until your order comes in!)

Use the stitched flower die from the Needlepoint Elements Framelits Dies to create the stitched flower. This is such a fun die. Most of the dies in the set cut, but a few look like you stitched a pattern in the card. So much easier than a needle or sewing machine. One pass through the Big Shot and you have a perfect image.

Stamp the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on a scrap of Highland Heather Cardstock. Trim, then use the Banner Triple Punch to notch the edge.

Now that your background piece is dry, pick up some Highland Heather ink from the lid of the stamp pad with an Aqua Painter, then flick it on the cardstock. When that dries, you’re ready to put your card together.

Adhere the Shimmery White layer to the Balmy Blue card base. Then add the hummingbird and sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Add a few Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins and your card is finished.

It’s going to be hard for me to pick my favorite product from the new Occasions Catalog, but I do love the Gingham Gala Suite.

Happy Birthday to my Mom

Some of you have met my mom. She stamped with me in workshops for years and she attended several Stampin’ Up!® events with me as a guest. At one of the events, they offered something special for uplines who got a recruit that weekend – and they offered something to do with the digital crafting system we had (My Digital Studio) as a perk for recruits. My mom was hooked. She loves digital crafting, and she still does a blend of stamps, ink, and digital. I thought it was funny that while many of my contemporaries were complaining that they were too old to learn the system, my mom was breezing through it like it was nothing. She was much better at it than I was.

Several years later, when I started a monthly craft day at a local assisted living facility, Mom went with me to help. And, boy, was she a help! Mom knew many of the residents, so they enjoyed catching up. When I realized that Mom was older than most of the residents, I was shocked. She seems so much younger and she’s so active and good at everything. I always planned projects for “older” ladies with my mom in mind. I had somehow forgotten that Mom is more capable than most people my age. She hasn’t slowed down much over the past 60+ years.

So Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you and am very proud of you. You’ve accomplished so much, it’s hard to believe you’re not a lot older – or in your second lifetime! You’re the best. Hope you have an amazing day!

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a lovely day!
