Humming Along in Heather

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Sorry, Andy Williams, but it isn’t Christmas for me. It’s Stampin’ Up!® Sale-a-bration and the Occasions Catalog that does it for me. And this year they are both amazing.

Side note: I have a Traditional Christmas station on Pandora, and it’s mostly the “crooners” – Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Nat King Cole. I didn’t choose them; I just wanted carols and traditional music. But it’s been lovely. Now, I’m back to The Piano Guys and (when Amelia’s in the car) Disney Children’s Songs. So that’s probably why Andy Williams popped into my head.

Back to Sale-a-bration and Occasions. I am really loving the products this year. I made this card in just a few minutes using the Humming Along Stamp Set.

I bought this stamp set because it includes a hummingbird, and my mom loves hummingbirds, so I tend to buy them so I’ll have lots of options for cards for her. I haven’t used the hummingbird yet, but I love the flower. There’s a coordinating set of dies – Hummingbird Framelits Dies – and you can bundle them and save 10%. I’m thinking the Humming Along Stamp Set must have been a prize patrol or other giveaway at OnStage, because I don’t have the dies. What was I thinking at preorder time? They’re definitely on my shopping list now. (Obviously, I fussy cut the flower since I forgot to order the dies.)

How To

Here are the card details. First, on the 2-3/4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White Cardstock, watercolor a Highland Heather background using a Highland Heather Classic Stampin’ Pad and an Aqua Painter. (Watercolor Paper or Shimmer White Cardstock works a lot better, but I had Whisper White cut and on hand.) Set it aside to dry.

On another piece of Whisper White Cardstock, stamp the flower in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Color with Highland Heather, Granny Apple Green, and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends. Die-cut  the flower.

When the background panel is dry, stamp Thank you in Granny Apple Green ink. I used my Stamparatus so I could stamp the sentiment multiple times.

Adhere a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of the Gingham Gala 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper (DSP) in Highland Heather to a Whisper White card base. This DSP is from the Gingham Gala Suite in the Occasions Catalog, and it includes the Butterfly Gala Stamp Set and Butterfly Duet Punch that you’ve seen me use, the DSP, Whisper White 5/8″ Flax Ribbon (kind of like our burlap ribbon, but white) and Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins. For this card, I used a few of the Lemon Lime Twist sequins as well as the DSP.

Adhere the watercolored background to a 3″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Granny Apple Green, then adhere that to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Finally, add the flower to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and then a few Lemon Lime Twist Sequins.

I didn’t use any Sale-a-bration products on this card, but if you purchase the Humming Along Bundle and Gingham Gala DSP, you’ll earn a $50 Sale-a-bration product. My suggestion would be the Butterfly Elements. One of the small butterflies, embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, then colored with a Stampin’ Blend, would be a gorgeous addition to this card!

A Note about Cling Stamps

The stamps in this set are the new Cling Stamps. They are still red rubber, and at first glance, you wouldn’t notice a difference between them and our Clear Mount Stamps. But the labels for the clings are super clingy. I love them – but here’s a word of caution. When I made my cards for the December Swap I participated in, I forgot to remove the hello stamp from my Stamparatus. And then I left for a long weekend. When I got home and opened my Stamparatus, I saw the stamp. No problem; just peel it off, right? Wrong. That baby was stuck to my Stamparatus. Fortunately, I have a Take You Pick Tool, and I used the spatula to gently remove the stamp from my Stamparatus.

So – the lesson here is, do not leave your stamps on a block or stamp positioner. When you’re finished stamping, put them back in the stamp case. And I would advise you store them rubber side down so they don’t stick to your cases.
