Springtime Abstract

For about five years, I held a Technique Class each month using products from the current (at the time) Stampin’ Up!® catalogs. It was fun, and we learned a lot! I found my technique file the other day, and decided to pull one out to play with.

I wanted flowers and butterflies, because it’s been rainy and dreary here for the past week. Oh, who am I kidding? It’s been rainy and dreary almost all summer. I know we’ll appreciate having the reservoirs full. That’s what I keep telling myself when I wake up to another rainy day.

So – in honor of the spring we didn’t have here in Virginia, I wanted a field of flowers behind my Springtime Impressions die-cut butterfly. I cut a 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″piece of Garden Impressions Designer Series Paper (DSP) and painted Gesso over it. It muted the DSP enough that I could stamp over it, but still see the floral background.

When the Gesso was dry, I used the Abstract Impressions Stamp Set to stamp the flower stems in Garden Green and Granny Apple Green ink. Then I stamped the blossoms in Mango Melody and Daffodil Delight. The stamping stands out enough that it can be seen, but it doesn’t take away from the butterfly or the background.

The butterfly is from the Springtime Impressions Thinlits dies. The thinlits, DSP, and Abstract Impressions Stamp Set are all part of the Garden Impressions Suite in the Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog. The sentiment, from the Wonderful Moments Stamp Set is stamped in Garden Green. This is such a sweet set, but I almost didn’t order it. Most of my friends already have grandkids, and I didn’t know anyone who was getting married. But then I found out two of my nieces are having weddings next year. So I needed a new wedding set, right? The sentiments in this set are very versatile, and there’s also an image that can be used for birthdays as well as other events.
