Pop-Up Anniversary Card

My amazing parents celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Sunday. They are truly an inspiration. They’ve been through good times, bad times, ups, downs, happiness, and heartache, but they’ve never lost their love for each other or their love for and faith in God.

To celebrate their anniversary, I made a cute pop-up card for them.

We made a Christmas card using this template for our demonstrator meeting, and I thought it would be a fun card for Dad & Mom. It looks worky, but it’s actually quite simple.

I used the beautiful Petal Promenade Designer Series Paper (DSP) for the “box” part. The stamped and die-cut flowers and leaves are from the Oh So Eclectic Stamp Set and Eclectic Layers Thinlits dies.

Here are some details and measurements.

Start with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of cardstock (I used Blushing Bride).
Score at 1″, 2-3/4″, 3-3/4″ 5-1/2″ 7-1/4″, 8-1/4″ and 10″ using your Simply Scored Scoring Tool.
Place the cardstock in your Stampin’ Trimmer, with the 5-1/2″ score line on the cutting line. Place the cutting blade in the center of the line and cut up to the 1/2″ mark. Cut back down to the 3-3/4″ mark. Add two strips of Tear & Tape Adhesive on each of the 1″ ends.

Decorate the top and front of the box with DSP. You’ll need two 4″ x 1-1/2″ and one 3/4″ x 4″ piece. (If you’d like to also decorate the back, you’ll need two 3/4″ x 4″ pieces.)
The two larger pieces go on either side of the center score (the one that is cut); the smaller pieces go on the 1″ sections (between the 2-3/4″ and 3-3/4″ scores, and the 7-1/4″ and 8-1/4″ scores.)
The other sections will either have adhesive on them or will be on the bottom, so you don’t have to decorate those. For Dad & Mom’s card, I wrote a little note on the bottom pieces.

For the pop-up insert, you’ll need:
5-1/2″ x 3″ Cardstock (I used Berry Burst)
5-1/4″ x 2-3/4″ DSP
5″ x 2-1/2″ Cardstock (Highland Heather in the anniversary card)

I used the Springtime Impressions Thinlits with the Big Shot Embossing Mats to emboss the Highland Heather layer. Then I adhered the layers and added the stamped and die-cut flowers. To get the striped look, I first stamped and die-cut the base image from the Oh So Eclectic Stamp Set and Eclectic Layers Thinlits. Then I used the “open flower” thinlit to create a stencil and sponged more Berry Burst through the stencil onto the flower. The leaves are Mellow Moss on Mellow Moss.

Once you have everything decorated, feed the insert through the slit in the base from the inside out.

Fold the ends to the inside making sure the front of the insert will be facing front. Otherwise you’ll be decorating the back after all! Then remove the adhesive backing from the bottom end, and adhere the insert flush against the fold at the bottom. Then remove the liner from the top adhesive and fold it down over the the bottom, keeping the edges even.

You can add a sentiment and other embellishments to the front.

To mail, simply push down on the center so the top pieces of the base fold together and the bottoms show. Here’s a photo of the closed version. This is the one we made at our meeting.
