Go for the Gold

Despite what you may think from the title, this blog has nothing to do with sports. Frankly, I’m not a huge fan of sports. First my favorite shows were postponed because of the Winter Olympics. Now they’re postponed for “March Madness.” Yes, that is madness. I don’t want to watch a bunch of college guys running around with a ball trying to drop it into a round hoop. I want to watch Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs and PC Frank Reagan. *sigh*

This gold card is for my aunt and uncle’s 50th anniversary. I’ve been wanting to use the Cake Soirée set from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions catalog since it arrived at my door a week ago, and I finally inked it up today! (I sure hope this one carries over so I can use it more.)

To create this card, stamp the cake in VersaMark Ink, then emboss with clear powder. (I stamped in Gold Metallic ink and embossed with clear, because I realized I was out of Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. WHAT?? How did that happen?). Then color the flowers and cake. You can use Stampin’ Write Markers, Classic Ink and a Blender Pen or Aqua Painter, Stampin’ Blends, Watercolor Pencils, or Brusho Colour Crystals. We have lots of options! Then die-cut the cake using the coordinating Sweet Cake Thinlits Dies. (You can bundle the stamps and thinlits and save 10%. If you wait, and these stamps and dies carry over to the new catalog, you’ll have to pay full price. So if you like them, order now! Die-cut the pedastal cake stand from Gold Foil Sheets, and adhere the cake using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Stamp the small flower outline in Basic Black Archival Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, then stamp the inside with Classic Stampin’ Pads. I stamped two with Cherry Cobbler (the second was stamped without re-inking) and the third with Melon Mambo. Stamp the leaf image in Garden Green on Whisper White cardstock and die-cut.

Use the leaf die in the Sweet Cake Thinlits Dies to die-cut the leaves from Old Olive Cardstock. Add the flowers and leaves to the top of the cake.

Add a piece of Springtime Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP, which you can get free if you order the Cake Soirée bundle before March 31) to the Fresh Fig card base. Stamp a few gold splatters from the Timeless Textures Stamp Set to the bottom of the card. If you have gold metallic ink (sadly, we don’t sell this any more, but you may have some from when we did) you can use that. Or you can stamp in VersaMark and emboss with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. This will make the dots more obvious and really bring out the dotted pattern in the DSP.

After adding the cake to the card, the final touch is to die-cut celebrate from Gold Glimmer Paper using the Sale-a-bration Level 2 Celebrate You Thinlits Dies. You can get these now for free with a $100 order (WOOT!), but they’ll also be in the 2018-19 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog if you’d rather pay for them.
