Brusho – Which Paper Should You Use?

I’m having such a fun time playing with the Brusho Crystal Colour in the 2018 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog. In yesterday’s blog, I posted a card using Brusho as a background. I spritzed the entire Watercolor Paper panel with water, then sprinkled Brusho over the paper and let it dry. You can see that card here.

I wanted to show you how Brusho works on four of our white papers. I stamped the same inage (the floral pattern from a new Occasions set, Petal Palette) on Watercolor Paper, Glossy White Cardstock, Whisper White Cardstock, and Shimmery White Cardstock in VersaMark ink, then embossed with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then, instead of spritzing like I did on yesterday’s card, I used an Aqua Painter to paint the flower blossoms with water, then sprinkled some of the Brilliant Red on each and used the Aqua Painter to move the color over the image. Then I blotted a bit with a paper towel. After it was (mostly) dry (because I’m impatient), I used the Aqua Painter to add water to leaves and sprinked the Moss Green over them and moved the color with the Aqua Painter.

After each panel was dry, I spritzed water in the empty white areas, then sprinkled the Yellow and moved the color with the Aqua Painter. Here are the results.

This is the flower on Whisper White. I think the red looks really good. Using it to “paint” the flowers (using the Aqua Painter then sprinkling color) works well on Whisper White. But as far as spritzing and adding color, this is probably my least favorite.

Both the painting (using the Aqua Painter first) and the spritzing worked well on the Shimmer White.

As with the Shimmery White, both techniques look great with the Watercolor Paper.

The Glossy White is my least favorite for both techniques. I think it’s because of the glossy finish; the water doesn’t soak in, so it mutes the colors a lot. The Moss Green looks more brown and the Brilliant Red just — isn’t. It’s more of a burgunday or dusty rose.

I noticed that the crystals in the Moss Green split into blue and yellow (which is really cool!), but in a few places where the yellow from the green met the red, they turned orange. Again, that can be really cool!

My opinion – I’ll be using Shimmery White or Watercolor Paper for most of my Brusho projects. Glossy White won’t be an option, but I may also use Whisper White, depending on the technique I’m using.
