Pounced Blossoms
While I love Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper (DSP), I also enjoy making my own backgrounds for cards and other projects. Years ago, before DSP was as plentiful and gorgeous as it is today, background techniques were quite popular. Here’s an oldie, but it’s a really fun one.
To create the background, simply scrunch up a little plastic wrap, then get it inky with a Classic Stampin’ Pad, and then pounce it on your cardstock. I used Peekaboo Peach, Lemon Lime Twist, and a little Bermuda Bay for this card. It was one of the examples for our technique class this week. Just a tip – it’s best to use lighter colors or to “pounce off” on scrap paper first so the background doesn’t overwhelm your main image. Of course, this image is a little delicate; if you’re using a bolder image, you’ll want your background colors a little stronger so they can hold their own.
After I finished the background, I stamped the bunch of blossoms from the Birthday Blossoms set along the side. They needed a bit more oomph, so I watercolored them with an Aqua Painter and Peekaboo Peach and Bermuda Bay ink. The sentiment (also from Birthday Blossoms) is stamped directly on the cardstock with Bermuda Bay ink.
I finished this card off with some Bermuda Bay Mini Chevron Ribbon, then adhered the inky layer to a Bermuda Bay card. (Yeah, I do like Bermuda Bay.) This was one of three techniques for the class, and all three used cling wrap. Too fun!
If you don’t want to make your own backgrounds, Stampin’ Up! has lots of gorgeous designer series paper, and through October 31, you can select a free pack when you purchase three at the regular price. Here are the papers that are included in the sale.
Don’t miss out on this sweet deal!

I remember when background techniques were IT – even in adding texture to walls in the house, instead of using wallpaper! Thanks for the flash back, Buffy! 🙂
