Happy Birthday, Buttercup!
Today’s the day! My beautiful granddaughter Amelia turns three today. I remember that day three years ago like it just happened. Steph had been having contractions, but we all thought it was pre-labor, as Amelia wasn’t due for another two weeks. We took the kids out to dinner (how tough is that Stephanie? If my in-laws had taken me out to dinner when I was in labor, I would have punched them), then everyone went home for a good night’s sleep.
At 10:30 or so, the kids called. Steph was very uncomfortable, and they weren’t sure if they should head to the hospital or not. Since it was a good 25 minutes away, I suggested if they thought there may be even a chance Amelia would show up, they should go.
If you’ve ever gone to the hospital for “false labor” and been sent home, you know it’s several hours before you get released. At 1 a.m., Wes called to let me know they were coming home. Of course, he had to work at 6 a.m., so he was totally bummed.
About a half hour after they got home, I got another call. (So Amelia didn’t just keep her parents up all night three years ago; she kept me up too!) “Mom, Stephee’s water broke.” No brainer – go to the hospital. “What if they send us home again?” Oh, trust me, they won’t. “But what if they do?” Wesley, get that girl to the hospital NOW.
And the rest is history. We all think that because Steph was so small and Amelia was very long, she needed to stretch and kicked her way out. I still can’t believe she’s three years old. Life must have been sadly flat before, because she adds a new level of adventure, joy, and love every day.
Speaking of birthdays, since I still can’t get to my stamps, ink, and paper, I wanted to show you the gorgeous card I got yesterday from my dear friend Susan. Susan is always on top of things and organized. Susan is the opposite of me.
How beautiful is that? I love the colors Susan used; Peekaboo peach is one of my favorite In Colors, and it goes so well with so many other colors – like Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, and any green. Thanks, Susan! You totally rock.
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
