Tag, You’re It!

This weekend was so productive for me, at least as far as crafting goes. I didn’t get started creating for the challenges until Sunday, but I got quite a few cards and other projects made. The challenges were lots of fun, so that made it easier to head to the craft room.

One challenge was to use ribbon in new ways. Let’s face it, some of us are ribbon hoarders, right? I know I am. It’s so pretty, and I hate to run out, so I tend to just look at it and admire it on the shelf. And then the Stampin’ Up! catalog sales period ends and I have a ton of leftover ribbon that I’ll probably just give away. This year, I’ve committed to use ribbon and designer series paper (DSP) as much as I can.

How gorgeous is that flower? And it’s very simple. I cut about 17 2-1/4″ pieces of Daffodil Delight Double-Stitched Ribbon, then glued the ends together with a glue gun. I kind of twisted them, like a “cause ribbon,” so they’d look a little more like petals.

After you get your “petals” ready, punch or die-cut a circle from cardboard (like the backing for your DSP) and simply glue your ribbon petals to the circle. I used a smallish circle; I think it was 1-1/4″. Honestly, I just grabbed a punch that looked about the size that I wanted without looking to see which one it was.

I only have two layers, but you can add as many as you want. You can also start with a wide ribbon on the bottom layer, then add narrower ribbons for the top layers.

For the center, I punched a Pansy flower from Old Olive Cardstock, then cut one petal out. I overlapped the two ends so that it would be a little smaller. Stampin’ Up! has lots of thinlits and framelits that would also work; I was in a hurry and needed something fast, so I punched. For the very center, I used a Gold Faceted Gem.

I was going to hot glue this to a hair clip for Amelia, but it was a little bigger than I had expected. And she doesn’t leave hair clips in anyway, but she did “yike” (like) this flower. I decided to use it on a tag instead. I stamped images from Timeless Textures in Soft Suede and Pear Pizzazz, splattered some Crumb Cake over it with an Aqua Painter, then sponged the edges with more Crumb Cake. The sentiment, from Just add Text, is Soft Suede and Old Olive. I used Stampin’ Write Markers to ink the stamp so I could get both colors. I decided to use Old Olive Mini Chevron Ribbon for the tag, then tied it with some Old Olive Baker’s Twine. The twine was part of the packaging for another challenge. Fun!
