Stamp-Off Friday Color Challenge
We have another fabulous Stamp-Off Challenge for you! This week, it’s a color challenge.
How gorgeous are those colors? I’ll have to admit, when I first saw the Daffodil Delight and Cucumber Crush, I had a flashback to Middle School (not the best time of my life), but Flirty Flamingo brought me back to the present. Oh – the flashback? Those were our school colors, except we just called them “green and gold.”
I wanted to use some products that I knew would still be available – but I did add a couple retiring products as well. Here’s my card.
I have to say, this gave me fits. First, I didn’t like the way the floral image was stamped, so I had to restamp that. Then I added a die-cut layer, but glue showed, and my glue eraser is MIA (very possibly with my blocks and paper snips). Finally I ripped the die-cut off, added some retiring Designer Series Paper, and called it a day. Then I noticed the smudge under the floral image. You know what? Little things like that are what make handmade cards special, so I left it. One day, someone will see this card and say, “Oh, look…Grandma’s eyes must have been getting bad in her last days.”
Here are the details for the card. I used the Floral Phrases Stamp Set for the image and sentiment. I used Flirty Flamingo, Daffodil Delight, and Cucumber Crush Stampin’ Write Markers to ink the image stamp, then stamped (badly) on Whisper White Cardstock. Then I added the Cucumber Crush sentiment underneath.
I have a lot of 2015-18 In Color Designer Series Paper Stack left – but I’m kind of glad about that. I’m using it for birthday banners for our family – and I still have a couple to make. I did use a little piece of the Cucumber Crush polka dot design for the card, then finished with a little Flirty Flamingo Ruched Ribbon. Of course, I didn’t plan ahead, and had to punch a 1/8″ circle in the fold of the card so the ribbon wouldn’t tie the card closed. (Did I mention I spend most of my days with a toddler? Just cranking out a couple cards every week is a challenge!)
Finally, I found the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper dragonfly on my stamp table when I was cleaning up. I decided to sponge it with Daffodil Delight ink and add it to the card with Mini Glue Dots.
The smudge still bugs me – so I’ll have to either cover or hide it. But at least you know even SU Demonstrators mess up sometimes!
Check out what Susan & Jackie did with this challenge. And while you’re at it, check out my dear friend Linda Wicks’ blog. She and her incredibly talented daughter have been taking part in various challenges, and they did our “Take it or Leave it” challenge last week. Their cards are gorgeous!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
Ok, now you need to edit your blog because I didn’t even noticed the smudge! Your card is so beautiful that no one will notice.

Awwww – thanks, Susan. This is the real reason I do “layers” – to cover up smudges.

Tee Hee. Grandma did a great job. Love the story of this card and the tinted glimmer dragon fly. I also like the two colors on the floral image. Beautiful!

Thanks, Jackie. This was a great challenge. I would never have put those three colors together, but they’re so bright and happy!

Ooops, you told on yourself again. I didn’t see the smudge, and when I went to look, it could have been a shadow and not a smudge at all. And stop talking about your last days! You must have tons of days left. Green and gold? Hmmmmm, do you remember the green and gold kitchens? Now that was pretty awful. Of course, they were AVOCADO green and HARVEST gold — sure hope SU never has those colors — that is what green and gold reminds me of. Oh, so back to the card, beautiful, all of it. I love the dragonfly, yummy ribbon, and you know I love polka dots. Great job. Now go back to being YOUNG.

Thanks, Sandy, and – Oh, my goodness – I do remember Avocado Green and Harvest Gold. All the “fancy kitchens” had appliances in those colors. My mom stuck with white, probably knowing/hoping the colors would go away one day.
Now that I think about it, that “smudge” is a shadow. (Ha ha ha)

You are your own worst critic, Buffy! Your card is lovely – I really like how you coloured the floral stamp – and I didn’t notice the ‘smudge’ until you pointed it out! I have a friend who stamps with me, and she calls her smudges ‘character’! 🙂
