You Are Amazing
Last night was supposed to be my “finish up swaps, ‘pillow gifts,’ and display board samples for OnStage” night, but you know how life goes. “The best laid plans of mice and men (and paper crafters) often go astray.” Mike’s mom had been having some health issues, so she’s been in and out of the hospital over the past few days. Today we found out some serious – and, so far, unexplained – things have happened. We think she may have fallen, but no one at the assisted living center knows anything. Her jaw is dislocated and she has had some bleeding in her brain. There is a new lady at the facility who seems to be interested in my mother-in-law’s gentleman friend, so maybe there was a brawl. Who knows?
Anyway – Mike came home on the way to the hospital, so I offered to ride along. Sitting in a waiting room outside of the Critical Care Unit is always more fun with someone, right? And we did sit – for over an hour. Of course, we made Airplane jokes. Since his mom’s name is Shirley, we had to do the, “Surely we’ll be in the room soon.” “Don’t call me Shirley,” joke. And when we texted that we were in the hospital and someone asked, “The hospital! What is it?” of course we had to answer, “It’s a building with patients. But that’s not important right now.” (Hey, levity helps ease stress, don’t you think?)
We finally did get admitted to her room, but she was sound asleep and we didn’t want to wake her. She still has more tests tonight, so rest is good.
I did get a chance to play a bit when I got home, though. I finished a card for the Creating Pretty Cards sketch challenge at Craft Project Central. Take a look.
First the sketch (you can see my original post about the challenge here) –
And here’s my “take” on the sketch.
I used the colors in the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack for my color inspiration. I dripped some Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral Classic Ink Refills on an acrylic block, spritzed with water, then stamped on Shimmery White Cardstock. I added a few splatters from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog in Early Espresso.
The smaller layer is Peekaboo Peach. I stamped the greenery from Awesomely Artistic in Bermuda Bay, then stamped the sentiment – from All Things Thanks – in Early Espresso. This is my second attempt. The first time (on the other side of the cardstock), I didn’t stamp off the greenery near the sentiment, so it was hard to read. When I turned the cardstock over to use the other side, there were a few splatters from where I had spritzed the ink on the block for the other layer. But it looks kind of fun and ties in with the splatters on the watercolored layer, so I left it. (I love these little happy accidents!)
It needed something more, so I added a Detailed Dragonfly Thinlit die-cut. I used Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and sponged it with Peekaboo Peach ink. I know I’ve said this before – and don’t get me wrong. I love our current In Colors – all 10 of them (and I’m going to seriously miss the retiring five), but Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Emerald Envy, and Sweet Sugarplum all sound like stripper names to me. Even Dapper Denim could be one of the Chippendales. Of course, that just makes it more fun to use them, because I think up little stories about their lives and what caused them to turn to the pole in the first place. But I digress…
Give this sketch a try! For every 10 entries, one is randomly chosen to win a free month subscription to Craft Project Central. So get those entries in! You can enter as many times as you’d like – and this is a great sketch to get started with!
Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy.
