Stamp-Off Color Challenge
It’s FRIDAY – and it’s time for another Stamp-Off with Jackie, Susan, and me. Susan and Jackie always inspire me. Their cards are always beautiful.
This time, we had a color challenge.
How fun are these colors? They remind me of the beach – which I’m heading to in about two months. WOOT!
Here’s my card for this week’s challenge.
I know you’re looking for the Smoky Slate and Flirty Flamingo. Admit it. You’re thinking, “Oh, Buffy, you’re taking after Susan and going rogue!” And, by the way, her “rogueness” is one reasonT I love Susan!
Well – I did use all the colors. Years and years and years ago when I started stamping, there was a technique called “Gray Guiding.” I think now it’s called “Watercoloring with No Outlines” or something like that. The idea is that you stamp in a light neutral (like Smoky Slate) and then color over the lines with pencils or markers to create a more watercolored look. Then simply use a Blender Pen or Aqua Painter to pull color into the image.
I stamped the image from the Beautiful You stamp set in Smoky Slate on Watercolor Paper, then colored over the lines with Island Indigo, Flirty Flamingo, and Pool Party. Flirty Flamingo seemed a little pink for the skin tone I wanted, so I used some Watercolor Pencils to tone it down a bit. But the underlying color is Flirty Flamingo.
I think the Pool Party and Island Indigo elements are obvious. The flowers from Birthday Blossoms are stamped in Pool Party, and the sentiment (from Beautiful You) is stamped in Island Indigo.
Take a few minutes and head over the Jackie’s and Susan’s blogs. I can’t wait to see what they did with these colors!
Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a beautiful day!

Oh Buffy, I laughed when I realized we had created such similar cards. I love the fact that you used the No Lines technique with this image. I absolutely looks like the image was drawn.

Thanks, Susan! It’s very easy. You can also use Sahara Sand, but that wasn’t a color in the challenge. 😉

Thanks, Deborah. I hadn’t thought about this technique for years, but it’s fun and super easy. Not sure I’d use flirty flamingo for skin tones, though. Even toned down, it makes the poor lady look a bit sun burned.
