Amazing Cupcakes & Carousels
This is a double challenge today. I attended a “Virtual PJ Party” over the weekend (Shout out to the Have Fun Stamping Team!), and one of the creative challenges was a Chopped Challenge. If you’ve ever watched “Chopped” on the Food Network, you know what the challenge is. Contestants have a basket with four ingredients. They can use anything else along with them, but they must use the four ingredients in the basket.
For our Chopped Challenge, the four ingredients were products from the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit in the 2017 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog. I was thrilled, because – seriously, how did I miss this kit? It’s so cute with sequins, tassels, baker’s twine, labels, and bows. I was so fixated on the paper and stamps, I totally missed the kit. Thanks, Holly, for hitting me up-side the head with it!
I also needed a card for the Creating Pretty Cards sketch challenge at Craft Project Central. Seriously – you need to enter this challenge. For every 10 cards entered, a winner is chosen to receive a FREE subscription to Craft Project Central. The projects each month are over the top, and the tutorials are very well written. Here’s the sketch for January.
Back to the Chopped Challenge – our four ingredients for the challenge were the die-cut label, baker’s twine, a bow, and the tassel. Ok, so I’m not a tassel fan, so this was a real challenge for me. However, I did order the Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper (DSP) Stack from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog, so I was a step ahead. Take a peek at my card, and then you can follow along with my creative process.
I decided to use the diamond pattern from the DSP stack, because it was vintage looking and I’m drawn to vintage products and projects. One of the neutrals in the Cupcakes & Carousels Suite is Very Vanilla, so that was easy. I embossed it with the Boho Chic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, because it coordinated with the pattern in the DSP.
I still hadn’t used any of the Chopped ingredients, though. Hmmmmm. So, cupcakes, eh? I decided to use the Up & Away Thinlits Dies to create cupcakes from the Pool Party bow and from some So Saffron Cardstock. One down!
The label was easy. It would be the focal point for the sketch. Two down. But that tassel. It was a little more white than I wanted so I dyed it with So Saffron Stampin’ Ink Refill. Not dark enough. It still looked Very Vanilla. So I added some Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Ink Refill to a little water and let it soak for a bit. I love that it turned out ombre! That wasn’t the plan, but I’ll take it! I added it to the stamped label with the Gold Baker’s Twine. Chopped done! And it followed the sketch for the CPC67 challenge. Ba-zing!
The “you are amazing” sentiment is from the All Things Thanks set from the Occasions Catalog. It’s a fun “thank you” set that more than just “thanks!”
