Sitting on the Porch

I’m loving the “Sitting Here” stamp set from the new 2016-17 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. It’s one of the sets demonstrators were able to preorder this month. There’s just something about that porch swing.

Mike & I had a swing on the porch at the first house we lived in. It was so relaxing to just sit in the swing and read. When my nephew was four years old, I babysat him one day a week. He never wanted to take a nap, so we’d take books and curl up in our swing and read. His eyes would get droopier and droopier until Jimmy finally gave in to Mr. Sandman.

I decided to try some things with the new copper embossing powder, the Affectionately Yours specialty designer series paper, and the Sitting Here set.

Sitting Here, Stampin' Up!, Thoughtful Banners

I stamped the swing in Early Espresso ink, then added cushions. The rectangle pillow is stamped in Cucumber Crush on Whisper White card stock; the round pillow is copper embossed on the dsp, and the square pillow is copper embossed on Night of Navy card stock.

Of course I had to add a cat and dog, since we have both. I love the basket. In our family, the cat would definitely be the one on the swing, so that’s how I placed them on the card.

The cat is stamped in Basic Gray on Smoky Slate card stock and fussy cut. (Yeah, I know. Scissors??? But I find fussy cutting relaxing.) The dog is stamped on Delightful Dijon card stock with Early Espresso ink.

For the record, I still haven’t figured out how to stamp the animal in the basket and make it look right. If you don’t mask, it looks like the pet is kind of on a super fluffy pillow above the basket. Otherwise, you have to mask the dog so you don’t see the basket through his body. But then you have to mask the basket so the dog is actually in the basket. I’ll keep looking for the best way to do this, but for now – I just cut out the dog (and the cat from this post), cut a little slit in the basket and stuck the pet through the slit (about 1/8-1/4″). This looks the most normal and comfortable to me.

I did a quick wash around the images. The ground is Crumb Cake, and the sky is Soft Sky. And then I added a quick thank you banner (from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set and Duet Banner Punch, another bundle we were able to preorder).

This was supposed to be a “thinking of you” card, but I need thank you cards. So the lazy animals on the porch are exerting themselves enough to send their gratitude.

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!

Oh Buffy, this is wonderful! I love how you’ve integrated so many elements, and the copper EP together.
