A Tale of Two Cards

One of the benefits of attending the Stampin’ Up! #Onstage2016 was getting to preorder some of the new Annual Catalog products early. I’ve had so much fun playing with some of the new In Colors and stamp sets!

All demonstrators were able to preorder selected products from the new catalog in May. And while most of the products the OnStage attendees could order were on the preorder list, they added a few more items as well. So, of course, I sent in another order.

I usually wait until Amelia is napping or has gone home for the day to go to my stamp room, but the past few days, I’ve taken her down with me. Amelia has discovered my glitter/embossing powder drawer. Happily, she hasn’t figured out how to open the containers (and when she does, that’s the end of that!), but she really enjoys stacking them. I think she had 10 containers stacked up – and some of them were the old, taller containers. She topped them with a clear block and an ink refill. And it still didn’t fall over. She’s amazing.

While she was stacking, I played a little with the Pop of Pink Designer Series Paper. Since the coordinating Pop of Paradise stamp set was backordered, I used the hostess set “Love You Lots.” I chose that one because of Amelia, of course. She does a bang up elephant imitation.

Love You Lots, Stampin' Up! Love You Lots, Stampin' Up!

I cut two 4-1/2″ x 4″ pieces of Pop of Pink designer series paper on a diagonal and layered them to Whisper White thick cardstock cards. Easy!! For the lady bug card, I left the opening for the “love you” sentiment from the new Thoughtful Banners set. (After I stamped “Love” I saw that there’s a stamp that says, “I love you.” But I do like the font on the individual “love” stamp. I colored the bugs in Real Red and Melon Mambo, but you can’t really tell there’s a difference in color. And the hearts? Well…..

The hearts are supposed to be Sweetheart Punch hearts. But – my circle punches are the old “whale tail” punches. Even though I’m a demonstrator and get a great discount on punches (and I get free product!!), I don’t automatically upgrade whenever we get new product. I only replaced all my old Classic Stampin’ Pads with the new firm foam pads late last year. So while I was in my “whale tail” bin digging out the 1-3/8″ circle punch, I grabbed a heart punch as well. Oops! Apparently I didn’t sell my old heart punch, even though I have the Sweetheart Punch (which is much cuter). But after I had punched the three hearts I wasn’t going to trash them and punch new ones. Sorry – but I’m super cheap when it comes to throwing out card stock. If I can reuse it, I do! So just pretend they’re Sweethearts.

The elephant card was fun. I stamped the image in Basic Gray Archival Ink, then colored with stamp pads and a blender pen. I’ve been using aqua painters for so long, I had forgotten how much fun blender pens are. You have a lot more control over the color, too.

I know elephants aren’t pink, but I love the Melon Mambo elephant. I used the new Layering Squares framelits and the “Out of the Box” technique to die-cut the image, then added a little Pop of Pink Designer Washi Tape between the dsp layers. The tiny hearts are punched with the Owl Builder Punch.

When the 2016-17 Annual Stampin’ Up! Catalog goes live June 1, you can earn this set with a minimum $150 order or workshop! Contact me to schedule your party so you can get this set and lots more FREE!

Thanks for stopping by Stamping with Buffy. Have a wonderful day!
